What nobody explains: Its all about priority: attack, first and you have priority. If they try and just counter you they get hit. Once you hear them making a clean deflect, you have lost. priority. If you attack now you will get hit. Once you do a clean parry, you have priority again. Thats the main mechanic of the game.

Tip: Perfect parry has one start-up frame and 30 active frames, so the parry window last 0.5 seconds at 60fps. If you hold the parry button for 0.5 seconds, you'll increase your chance of a parry. If you mash, you're cutting the duration of active frames short since there's no end lag which reduces the probability of a parry. Trust me, this works. I rematched Isshin and Old Monk and was able to parry full combos. You don't have to remember boss frame data. Just hold guard the second the enemy starts an attack.

Tip 11: Piggybacking off of tip #4. The sound works both ways. While attacking, you can tell when your last attacking swing will be before your enemy attacks back by the sound. While attacking, if the enemy is blocking, the sound is a noticable lower pitch. On the very last block, before the enemy starts attacking, the pitch will get noticably higher. It may take a few enemies before you can tell, but once you pick it up you will never attack too many times. The swing that you hear the pitch change means you need to go from attacking to blocking.

I don’t recommend people do all of the cheese tactics that you possibly can, you need to learn the mechanics, be aggressive and learn the bosses. Combat arts and prosthetics should be used to supplement the fight but not solely to bypass the fight, like when people firecracker spam against corrupted monk and shit, I intentionally don’t do that

By no means do I need the prosthetics to win at this point but I just use them to enhance the experience and play a little more efficiently. Small correction: you can activate the upgraded versions of the mistraven for a certain window of time after taking damage by ANY source (status build up without any damage won't trigger mistraven), so any damage over time will continuously refresh this window, enabling the mistraven to be spammed. Even poison or burn caused by enemies or environment will do the same, it's just that contact medicine is more convenient because it's controlled and does little damage (and prevents other, more potent poisons to affect Wolf)

I learned that if you can time it right you can stack a ton of posture damage quickly by using a combination of tools and combat arts. The purple fire cracker makes enemies take extra health and posture damage for a short time after being stunned. So you can do a combo to maximize posture damage for bosses with weak posture. You use Ako Sugar (Or Yashariku if you want) the try to set up a combo like Handful of Ash+ Fire Cracker, then use Shadowfall, but while In the air use the Lazurite Ax, it does more posture and Vitality damage if you do it while in the air. Then blast them in the face with a flame vent with Living Force so they catch on fire. Then you can basically repeat the combo from there. It's hard for me because I always mess up the rotation of my tools and weapons but if you can do it right I think that combo would be very powerful against bosses with low posture.

Absolutely on a “rhythm game”! I play music and have compared this game to learning an instrument long as I’ve been playing. To be fair, I said the same thing about Bloodborne. But Sekiro seems particularly focused on audio cues. So if the game is the game is like mastering an instrument, each boss is like learning a song. Even with 300 hours into the game I still have a ways to go though. Your help has been appreciated these last 6 months. When I first got the game. Not sure why it took me so long, but it really does feel like I picked up the game precisely when I was supposed to. Cheers 🍻

It's a misnomer. I get the sentiment, but fights are neither synced to music nor deterministic which are both required for it to be an actual rhythm game. It's more like a dance, you and the (usually boss) enemy going back and forth on the attacks.

@@BigDBrian you’re being too literal. No one is saying it’s “Deemo”. I think ultimately we’re going over semantics, as it sounds like you don’t entirely disagree. I will say (towards tip #2), dont hesitate to be more aggressive in fights, every hit you make that they guard or deflect, adds to their posture meter. Dont be greedy with it, but just like deflecting, get used to the timing and rythm of your own attacks. Just wanted to add to it. Sorry, forgot to add. Spamming L1 in this game, is similar to panic rolling in the other fromsoft games, if you spam roll, the enemy will roll catch you and hit you, because you'll eventually roll right into one of their attacks. In sekiro, spamming L1 to deflect instead of timing it, will make you guard instead of deflecting, which will eventually destroy your posture meter and enemies will hit you and, possibly kill you. Something that I struggled with so, figured it would help someone else.

As for tip 2, for most bosses I like to stay extremely aggressive, so im always wailing on them. My tip is to deliberately press R1 each time instead of mashing it, and only let up the forward assault once the enemy properly deflects your attack (orange sparks fly), then press L1, react to whatever the boss does next, then continue the forward assault. When using Ako and Confetti it absolutely destroys some bosses like Genichiro, Emma, True Monk, etc.

What I love about sekiro is it gives you the option to not get hit. As long as you deflect you will beat every enemy in this game. If you lose then it's your fault. It's not because the game is Op or the boss is a sponge. It's simply because you did not deflect and attack at the right time. Leaving it all on the player. No BS stamina bar keeping the player held back. No BS overpowered boss. It's all on the player and very few games give that to players
