I have a question. Do you just spam the button to deflect or press it once at the right time on enemy's hit?? I'm just some where new to the game, at the Horse riding guy after the Snake, playing on PC with a joystick. But the deflects are so hard to make. I timed it right but only works on the 1st hit, the 3,4 hits after just straight blocks it instead and i got a ton of posture to myself. i've tried so many times, and start thinking it because of my input delay.

Then I realized it's because the only game even remotely similar to this I've played is Jedi Fallen Order and I was playing like it. But in this game you're not a powerful Jedi, you're a cunning ninja. After I embraced that difference the whole thing started to be more enjoyable

@@buddbrown6858 How do you know when to attack when you’re in a sword fight with someone? I deflect and deflect but when do I attack
@buddbrown6858 Жыл бұрын
@@WizzlyBearW0rms (Sorry if this is a bit long) I'd say accepting that honest combat will cause you to die over and over again which isn't fun, so fight as unfair as possible. Stealth kills are a start but just the beginning. Certain enemies are weak to stuff so you can exploit that in fights. Like how I spent 3 hrs fighting the giant ogre 1-on-1 with the sword when I could've just got the flame vent and burned it as bunch for an easier time. Or even lower level stuff like how fistful of ash can temporarily stagger enemies for free hits or the ceramic pot can lure enemies for easier stealth kills. Once you start doing that the game is more about tactics AND THEN from there you can dig into combat more cuz you're taking on 1-on-1 fights you know you have a chance with. But fighting unfair is also not being afraid to use guides, either walkthroughs or even combat guides to give you some combinations to think about. Can help to tell you how to beat certain bosses or even just the most effective orders to get skills and weapons (would've helped me if I knew about the flame vent 🙃). Some ppl don't like using guides but if you're not enjoying it or just feel kinda underpowered even several hours into the game like I did, I don't see the game in looking up something to help But as far as combat specifics, first learn how to Parry and perfect parry often, consistently (for posture damage) and get in attacks in between to seal the deal. Someone once said combat in this game is about rhythm and I very much agree. Enemies all have different, varied attack patterns and can counter you the way you can counter them, so you have to learn their patterns, Parry (or simply avoid them in case of perilous strikes), then make your counter attack with shinobi tools, items etc, then get back on defensive to repeat. It's a dance. But you've got to stay aggressive bc the way the posture system works, but also figuring which skills, items and combat arts are useful in punishing opponents (Ichimonji is a good general one that you can access early and is strong even in the late game). And don't be afraid to experiment as you get more tools, the game's interactions make a lot of logical sense. Throwing oil on enemies than using flame vent can burn pretty much anyone (still to mixed success). Enemies without armor are more susceptible to the poison blade. Firecrackers stun enemies for free hits. Lastly I'd say practice things you're looking to try out on weaker enemies to get a chance to practice parrying and see what stuff works in combat. Can also help you farm XP to purchase some of these more useful skills, combat arts etc. Hope any of this helps

@gamingnoobita78225 жыл бұрын
Upgrade your vitality and healing gourg first. When its time to battle him, analyze first his attack moves (you can block most of his attacks). There is an openning after he finished his combo, that's when you attack with your thrust attack (hold R1 for this). Becareful though, this can only be done in split seconds. Now, for the "openning after his combo" I mentioned earlier: When he charge at you, block his first attack and then a red kanji appears above sekiro head, which means he will attack with thrust. Don't (seriously, just don't) try to mikiri counter him, you will lose most of your health after doing this. What will you do is step-doge backward right after the red kanji appears then counter with your thrust attack. Do this fast or he might block this. There is also an openning when he is going to attack you with his bow & arrow in such a heavy force. You can block this but I recommend you to step-dodge this (Left or Right side, your choice) then go with thrust attack. I mostly damaged him using thust attacks. Now you executed 2 deathblows and defeated him? Nah! There's another round. This time he will remove his armor off and will try to electrify you. The thrust attacks I mentioned is still important here but you need another specific technique to counter his electricity. Hope you read the scroll paper after you defeated the mini boss before facing genichiro. If you already acquired this skill (I dont know what its called) try to jump when he will attack with electricity (sword or arrow) absorb the jolt and after that, press R1 before you hit the ground and you'll deal a lot of damage and he will be stunned for a sec which is your signak to attack with thrust. This 2nd phase battle is a lot easier for me but you might still need a health gourg after you defeated him in 1st phase battle.
@kyleblackburne28705 жыл бұрын
Angelbert Acosta actually you should always mikiri counter his red kanji in phase 1 as it is always a thrust, he only gets the sweep move in his second phase. Second phase you just side step when he jumps up, 1 slice and then jump back. If your quick you can obviously mario stomp his skull but i didn’t take any risks with a three wave fight.
@gamingnoobita78225 жыл бұрын
@@kyleblackburne2870 is it just my game or genichiro counter my counter to him? Like he always counter my mikiri and then lose most of my health and when I jump-kick him when he sweep attack then he counters me with my own counter and lose again most of my health.

tip for players struggling to deflect: u can use setups, there are 2 reliable ways to set up for a deflect: 1: R1 spam untill ur enemy deflects you, then they will launch a counteratack and for most bosses this will always be the same counteratack so the timing will always be the same. so u can manipulate their moveset by keeping them pressured. usefull for if you dont want them to use their strongest moves. setup 2: for strong atacks with a large windup and a fast slice: block once while they wind up, then time your second block for a deflect, this way you can cover some of the windup time (the usefull part about this is that you dont have to count the seconds in your head but u can use ur block animation as counting time.) this one is really usefull for bosses like the headless ape and Isshin.

"You're a Shinobi, you're a ninja." You are correct! That's why you should go for deathblows. You want to be aggressive because if you were to fight a trained Samurai they would have better posture/stance then you. So by staying aggressive you would break the form/balance of a samurai for a single lethal stab (deathblow). You never need to fight for honor because a Shinobi doesn't fight honorably.

isn't the point of the temple arts kicks to counter perilous swipes? it does massive posture damage. none of those attacks do much vitality damage but they do a butt ton of posture damage compared to everything else, except some of the skills that cost spirit emblems.

I would say that the Senpou Leaping Kicks from the Temple Arts tree is the Mikiri counter of sweep attacks. It smashes posture and you can immediately follow-up on it with two spinning kicks that won't be interrupted. Get it, you won't regret it.

How??? Im stuckkkk ffs. Did you have base vitality and 1 Healing Gourd? All videos I watched, I see they have 4 Healing Gourds and they say it's easy ://
@Rare.99 Жыл бұрын
@@Random131_ you should have more than one gourd and base vitality! I'm not following cowboy's guide to the t I'm just doing my first playthrough. There's another really good video by someone else where it shows to use shurikens when she's in the air, there are also other bosses you can do first and skills you can unlock! Good luck man

With deflection, I get mixed results between a button tap and a press and hold. I can't quite find the sweet spot. Do you tap to deflect or do you like hold and pulse? I know holding guard reduces posture build up and it seems like you're supposed to flex on and off while guarding to deflect but I can't quite get the response I'm expecting from either method.
@FightinCowboy5 жыл бұрын
I tap almost exclusively. The only time I'll block is if it's a huge multi-attack I don't know the timing for that I know I can't deflect.

Memorizing bosses have become second-nature to me, I even know some cheeky ways to sneak in attacks in the middle of powerful, chained combos on Lady Butterfly, but i still can’t beat her, these tips are going to be really helpful tho, glad I found your channel!

I played this game the day it game out, as I’m a huge FromSoft fan. Thinking it would play similarly to the souls games, I struggled my way through the beginning of the game until I came across the Red-eyed Ogre. I died around 32 times and put the game down. Fast forward to now, I’m finally playing and enjoying the game. Your play throughs and guides are an enormous help. Thank you, Cowboy.

Dragonrot affects NPC sidequests so just cure it as you feel necessary.
