I agree that MVP should go to the player who adds the most value, not just the one who excels in stats. Caitlin Clark elevated her teammates, she transformed the team, she got them to achieve what they could not achieve without her. Then there's the fact that her style of play, the combination of amazing passes and scoring from everywhere has awakened in the American public an interest in the WNBA that never existed before. I'm sure the powers that be don't want to award MVP based on celebrity, but it's been Caitlin's style of play, not her Instagram account, that has led to the surge of WNBA popularity. Caitlin has been most valuable to her team, and she has been most valuable to the WNBA

Now if CC could just learn team defense. Of course, what that means is now if the Fever could acquire a coach who even understands what defense is and how to teach it, CC might be able to improve. Christie Sides is one of the worst WNBA coaches. Awful Coaching breaks down time after time how the Fever's defense is among the worst, and how it's due to incompetent coaching. Fever players consistently are lost on defense - even Lexi Hull, their best defender who works like a dog but is still often out of position. Sporadic breakdowns on defense are typically the players' fault, but the whole team always looking lost is bad coaching.
@MeneerHerculePoirotАй бұрын
The Fever need to hire Michael Cooper. Larry Bird said Cooper was the best defensive player he faced in his career. Then hire Dennis Rodman as an assistant. Those 2 would have the Fever putting chills down the spines of the rest of the league. Just let Rodman go to Vegas every couple weeks and he'll be there when he's needed. lol Seriously, MC would make a great coach for the Fever.

You're perfectly correct. However, if we limit MVP to only consider the player's personal, direct performance in defense and in scoring points, A'ja is the "best". Unfortunately, she also makes her team 'smaller' (this was particularly obvious during the Olympics). The team with her is less than the sum of her and the rest of her team. Clark is the opposite. She makes her team 'bigger'. The team with Clark is greater than the sum of Clark and the rest of her team. And I'll say another thing: - If Clark would concentrate on just personal scoring, she'd outscore A'ja in a jiffy!

Very odd too if you look into each player on the Aces roster. Everyone is having down seasons. It's because the narrative last season was that Aja got robbed of MVP. So they really made sure she got hers this season, even at the detriment of her teams record and overall play. That's why you see them excel when she's off the floor, they actually play team ball without being forced to give Wilson the ball. My conspiracy side would say it was also a tactic to make sure the rookie didn't win it.

What has A'ja (your MVP?) and the 142 (less Caitlin) more players ever contributed to the WNBA in terms of "values" and "impact" in their entire career? I tell you take a closer look at the hereunder: Caitlin Clark in the MVP conversation: her value and impact to the league. 1. Stats: individually as a rookie & in the WNBA. 2. Influence on the game: Double - triple team, received the most fouls (incl flagrants). 3. Impact: Increase in attendance in every game at home and on the road. 4. Impact on the team: from below to 6th current standing & a playoff team, a floor general for every game both on her team and the All Stars. 5. Consistency: Revitalizing, elevating & helping her team in wins. 6. Narrative: TV Ratings, viewership, most talked in the media, children line up for autographs, popularity, increased ticket sales & price, change of venues. 7. Marketability, increased sponsorships, major endorsements. 8. Involvement in foundations. The "Splash Sisters" (CC & KM) has arrived in the WNBA. Caitlinsanity is real & alive. I am not black nor white, I am Asian from the Philippines.

If you examine the Aces roster it's very odd all other players are having a down season. The way it looks is that Vegas believes Wilson was robbed last year in the MVP race. Popularity is not and NEVER has been a criteria in MVP voting! That's IGNORANT! The criteria is based on basketball reasons. What happened on the basketball court. Scoring, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals, PER, Wins, Win shares, etc....... This guy doesn't know what he is talking about!

It took me awhile because I was mesmerized by Caitlin's cachet and charm. Plus her desire to make this a better place to play basketball. Well sorry Ms Clark as much as I respect your basketball acumen and ethics, I feel the rest of these idiots aren't with you. If anything they want to hurt you. Sorry they just lost my entertainment dollar and it wasn't anything you did. On the contrary, your still there fighting the good fight. But for me at some point I lost interest again. Sad because after many years of not paying attention you caught me in your wonderful web of social grace and awesome basketball skills. However, I refuse to stick around and watch you get hurt over and over again for a league that pretty much is prison style basketball.....no thanks. I like good basketball and this ain't that.

That was an amazing take on the actual situation going on against our Caitlyn. I feel the same way. She deserves much better. If nothing else to be in an actual professional environment. If the MVP in any league was about the actual "most valuable player" to a team instead of just the best overall player then things would look a lot different for all leagues. If it was about the most highly contributing player to team success then Peyton Manning should have won the MVP in 2011 when he didn't play because of injury. The Colts went from 10-6 with him to 2-14 without him and then the Broncos went from 8-8 without him to 13-3 with him. He was OBVIOUSLY the most valuable player in the league as far as team success goes.

YES , the PLAYER'S effect on the TEAM and LEAGUE ... don't forget "CC CAITLIN CLARK has RULES that ONLY ONE OTHER GREAT NBA PLAYER HAD , "its called the "JORDAN RULES" and Jordan is still #1 2024 GOAT, CC also have such a significant impact its called "CC RULES" because of the "CAITLIN EFFECT" ... YES CAITLIN IS THE TRUE 2024 MVP , but like EVERYTHING "inner political power has the winning effect" ... if MVP was voted by "registered basketball players and fans" , CAITLIN Clark akn: CC would have won MVP VOTES BY LANDSLIDE ... do not get me WRONG "AJA WILSON IS NOT ONLY A GREAT PLAYER A SCORING UNSTOPPABLE and DEFINITELY A HOF , but a long time (years) great SUPERSTAR PLAYER ....but let's face it MANY MANY MANY GREAT SUPERSTARS but voting is done YEARLY NOT 2,3, 4, or even 10 years stats/performances performance, voting is done YEARLY PERFORMANCES ... and CC#22 FEVER is unquestionable the "BEST OF THE BEST MVP 2024 WNBA PLAYER" it's so sad WNBA did not select her for the OLYMPICS and NOW another mistake NOT FAIRLY SELECTING CC CAITLIN CLARK by a fair judgements (as a Rookie and surpassing so many BREAKING records and her obvious court performances beating CRAZY WNBA records ... yet they (WNBA) did not ruled/have #22 CC on 2024 TOP 3 MVP ... Another reason wonder WHY WNBA not a popular sport because of all the BS in it ... I hope next season 2025 the WNBA improve , or might be the last 2025 last year i watch WNBA🤷♂️🤔

Part of the argument here in favor of Caitlin about triple doubles, is what I like to use on Jordan fanboys about Wilt Chamberlin. Most valuable? Most valuable for the league in thoughts of income, then hands down it is Caitlin, draw the vertical line and put a dot under it. In head-to-head battles, it is a battle, then Wilson is a better and more seasoned player and is the MVP. In baseball, I admit I didn't watch the WNBA before Caitin, the most valuable player is determined by how well his team performed, usually, and sometimes I just had to hang my head down in disbelief of who MLB's MVP player was. Indiana Fever is here, it is the national team we new viewers want to watch and look forward to watching, and that is because of Caitlin Clark.

Loved your roundup of the stats. She has also electrified the crowns, filled the stadiums, introduced women’s basketball to men snd women snd KIDS who had never had any interests in BB before. She not only has grown her team, but the sport! She has crowds larger than the nba snd outsold the superbowl in prices of tickets snd millions of viewers!!!! The pettiness of the old guard is responsible for not making her, hands down, the MVP over A’ja. And to be chosen by 62 to 64 as coach of the year, etc, when she dismissed CC with expletives (prior to losing to her…)…not taking her to the Olympics… and just about losing Gokd, only winning Gold by 1 point!!!!..Cheryl Reeves lost credibility this year and certainly didn’t deserve control over any promotional aspects or choices made on behalf of the women players who deserve more open-mindedness and discernment! Good to see the WNBA taking off 🛫 and bringing in the fought, courtesy of good old Caitlin Clark hard work and class, despite shabby treatment! And it ain’t racism… it’s plain old 7th grade attitudes and jealousy. C’mon! Let’s all pull together! Let’s rock the WNBA! Together!!!🏀🙋♀️
@noragriffin6432Ай бұрын
I compare turnovers in basketball to incomplete passes in football. The fault falls completely on the shoulders (or stats) of the passer when 2 teamates are involved in the play. How many times have we heard this, 'he should have caught that pass, there is no excuse'? Yet the receiver is not penalized, just the quarterback. If the quarterback is sacked for a loss, it is documented on the quarterback's stats. At the same time the fans are listening to the analysts and commentators describe the utter breakdown in protection of the O-line. In these examples all the stats should reflect where the actual problem occured, not the player responsible for only one part of the particular play. Baseball is the only sport that gets it right 95% of the time. Every fan everywhere is disappointed when a pitcher is throwing a 'No Hitter' and a fielder makes an error that loses the 'no hitter'. The stats should reflect the fact, in BOLD letters, that the third baseman cost his pitcher a 'perfect game'. There are playmakers in every team sport, but in most sports 1 player takes the hit for errors made by the entire team. Maybe 'the eyeball test' should hold more validity than it does when deciding awards.
@GreatlinClarkFan-c5hАй бұрын
Caitlin beats Aja in assists, combined points (1400 to 1100), unassisted points and 3 pointers. Caitlin also leads the rest of the league in those stats. And after the Olympic break, she averaged 24 points per game. Take Aja away from the Aces and they'll still be full of Olympians, champs and Allstars. Take Caitlin away from the Fever and you remove over 50% of all their points. You tell me which player was more valuable to their team, a great amongst other greats or a 22 year old rookie that broke 64 records and took the worst team in the league to 6th place and into the playoffs for the first time since 2016?

Players, coaches, refs and veterans HATE Caitlin Clark. With a wink and a nod, the WNBA gives the aforementioned the green light to conspire to "Nancy Kerrigan" Caitlin. And then there's Caitlin's teammates who stand around doing nothing. That's because they mildly tolerate Caitlin. What stops Caitlin's teammates from hating her like everyone else is that people now know their names because of her, and due to the skyrocketing fan attendance, they're playing in front more eyeballs than in their entire careers! They like flying Charter, too. Another gift from Caitlin. Then lastly, there's the Fever coach. Terrible! The coach hasn't any idea how to coach a team in the most fundamentals. Phil Jackson could hand-pick 12 of the most mediocre WNBA players and their record would be 40-0.

You don't have to. Clark is the MVP on many, many levels. By the way, A'ja never gets double, or triple-teamed, like Clark. A'ja also has played during garbage time to get the record, travels a lot, and has a special whistle. So, whatever A'ja.
