@waryinzero8 ай бұрын
The rules of the game decided the game
@79Glitch8 ай бұрын
@@ThomasBragdon-cm2jzthe women’s game should be officiated the same as the men’s game. That arm and elbow coming up, especially without the body being totally set, or having a little momentum from moving up to meet the defender … that would be called 10 out of 10 times in the men’s game. And if it wasn’t called, it would be a big mistake and would cause a controversy of the other team were to make a shot. But let’s play it out, hypothetically. The refs make a mistake and don’t call the obvious foul, maybe because the ref is a UConn fan … and Paige makes a go ahead basket that ultimately wins the game? Well, congratulations! Now you have controversy, people calling the women’s game sh*t because it’s not officiated properly, and the championship game without Caitlin Clark gets around 1 million viewers vs 10+ plus million viewers that it would get if she was playing … and a lot of this momentum and new interest in women’s basketball is almost completely lost. Is that really a better scenario … because they swallowed their whistles and “let the players determine the outcome”? I think the proper decision was made. Call the game the right way, the same as the men’s game, regardless of time left in the game or the situation or the match-up. And it’s the obligation of the player to get set and have the arms neutral and down, in front of the body or to the side. If she gets there a split second earlier, sets her feet, and keeps that elbow down … we don’t have to talk about this to begin with because it would be a clean screen.

Shout out to the UConn girls for the way they handled that loss. It speaks to their parents/role models, coaches, and their maturity at such a young age. You could tell some of the calls/ no calls was bugging the Huskies coach while they were ahead. He got pretty hot that one time and the female coach grabbed him so he wouldn’t get a technical. You have to feel for the girl that set the pick, she was just doing her job. The referee definitely should have had his whistle in his pocket on that play, unless the foul really affected it. You also have to feel bad for Paige. Poor girl got hurt missed a whole year. Worked hard rehabbing got back out there, made it all the way to the final four, had a chance to win the game in her hand and had it taken away. What a heartbreaker for her. But I got a feeling this will only fuel her to work harder next year. It’s crazy a couple years ago I couldn’t name one female basketball player. Now I know a lot of them, their backstories, and I’m looking forward to next year. I love the way they play the game, great passing, tough defense, good shooting, full effort, the way the game was meant to be played. Can’t wait for the final, may the best team win. Don’t feel too bad for UConn I got a feeling it’s their turn next year. If your a betting man and can get good odds on it, I would put 20 on the Huskies winning it next year

In football if someone broke for a 90 yard rushing touchdown to win the game with 3 sec left and it was called back because their teammate got a holding penalty and were blatantly holding would you say "awww just let them play" "suspicious call ref" etc..?? No because if they let it slide then they allowed cheating. She did an ILLEGAL screen that could've swung the game if allowed.

@@SlipnDrippeople focus so much on the fouls, but Iowa is pretty disciplined team, doesn’t play a lot of tight/aggressive defense. They aren’t going to have a lot of fouls. Teams have seen Iowa plays poor when they are against aggressive teams, which usually leads to more chances for fouls.

Absolutely 💯!! Offensive screener was both moving into the defender and had her shoulder into the defender! This was one of the easier calls to make as an official at this critical juncture!

Calling that time out was the biggest problem, you steal the pass have “have the jump” and don’t drive the ball down the court to score with one point down with 8 seconds.

The bottom line is this: it is against the rules of basketball to play defense. The game is fundamentally flawed, which is why it always feels like it is at the mercy of the refs. Did Edwards move into Marshall ever so slightly. Absolutely. It's a foul. Earlier in the game, Stuelke was literally just standing still with her hands straight up. A UConn player jumped into her arms. Stuelke gets called for the foul. Basketball is chock full of utter nonsense like that. Granted, the sport is still huge, so I doubt anyone cares, but this stuff is why I've never gotten invested as a fan. It all feels so utterly arbitrary.
@repealthepatriotact8 ай бұрын
"it is against the rules of basketball to play defense" ? What are you smoking? The refs are always going to be a part of the game, your job as a team is to not put yourself in a position to lose, which means you play defense 100% on every play with no fear of a bad call and you don't make mistakes that allow your opponent to come back. UConn blew a good lead and then didn't execute at the end. And that Edwards foul was 100% a moving screen.
@repealthepatriotact8 ай бұрын
@@SlipnDrip No. Calling a clear foul wasn't inconsistent, especially when it was right in front of the ref and would likely have resulted almost immediately in 2 points.
@gonzoaz39798 ай бұрын
@@repealthepatriotact UConn got that lead for letting them get away with no calls. Iowa couldn't play physical defense or they would have fouled out.
@ronaldkulas57488 ай бұрын
I agree with your comment. My two sons are BB officials, and I asked them why they would do that to themselves. No sport is more dependent upon officials than BB. The officials are de facto players.
@repealthepatriotact8 ай бұрын
@@SlipnDrip Yup. There were bad calls on Iowa too. Either way, refs are part of the game, and when you blow a game long lead in the last few minutes and commit a stupid foul right in front of a ref, that's not on the refs, that's on you.

That's what I thought at first, but watched the replay a few times, and that was a moving screen-she tried to be smooth, but instead of staying still with her arms at her sides she moved them up and moved her elbow slightly and leaned just enough to catch her, which is a no-no. Her leg was also moving the whole time. She knew what she was doing, she just figured they wouldn't call it because it was more of a brush and the refs would let it slide in a close game with a few seconds left. Tough call, but the ref nailed it.
@dirkdiggler72538 ай бұрын
Why let her have "a chance" when her teammate committed the foul. Do you actually not understand how stupid that sounds?
