Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are making their cases for Rookie of the Year. Clark posted the WNBA's first-ever rookie triple-double, while Reese broke Candace Parker's record for consecutive games with a double-double (Reese has 13 in a row). Skip Bayless, Rachel Nichols and Keyshawn Johnson debate who should be Rookie of the Year as the WNBA approaches All-Star weekend and the halfway point.

Why did the guy seem to insinuate that it's easy for Caitlin Clark to get a triple double because she took 17 shots a game...? How many shots she took has 0 bearing on how many rebounds or assists she got. Maybe they need to bring up how Caitlin Clark leads the league in points scored or assisted on their team...the entire league. Skip also mentions 3 point shooting % without even talking about Angel Reese's inability to hit a layup. Truth is, there is no player guarded the same way Caitlin Clark is guarded right now. Never seen a rookie get face guarded from 94 ft up the court...ever. They're not comparable.

Its called a full court press. If you’ve never played, just say that. But someone that can shoot from deep has to be gaurded further out. Thats just smart basketball. They aren’t playing her any different. Angel is the one fighting two or 3 players per possession. She isn’t standing down there wide open like caitlin is when she shoots all those 3s and barely makes them.
@ryanc9797
@ryanc9797 2 ай бұрын
@@derrion9041 I know what a full court press is and it's rare for a team to guard a single player with a full court press on almost every possession let alone a rookie. They are absolutely playing her differently and if you can't see that then I don't know what to tell you.

You are obviously Team CC. CCs extremely high turnover numbers greatly diminish all her stats. Those TO numbers are mind-boggling; even as a rookie. Turnovers=Poor decisions & carelessness with the basketball. No way to get around it. She'll have quite a bit of off-season time to get much better at her game. I expect CC to have a break-out season next year.
@ryanc9797
@ryanc9797 2 ай бұрын
@@TLane-fd5ee I would say it's not all on her. If you see the passes and decisions she tries to make..they're often the right ones but theres little she can do if KM can't catch a pass or if Wheeler fumbles on the break. The team is still getting used to CC. On top of that, how many rookies are getting doubled from 35ft from the basket? Not even Sabrina Ionescu is getting that kind of coverage so TOs are expected right now. Yeah they're high but I expect they will course correct as CC gets more comfortable and her teammates get used to the types of pass she throws.

Can't fault anyone for choosing either of these gals. But keep in mind CC is tasked with running the Fever’s offense, which is a much taller ask than Angel’s role. We were all told how hard it is for guards to transition to the W compared to bigger positions. Also, watch what happens when CC sits. That Fever team completely collapses on offense. Even when she's not racking up assists, she's having a massive impact on spacing and others having an easier time getting theirs.

Same thing happens when AR is off the court. They both have similar usage numbers, score the same amount of points for their teams, and both have 40% of their teams specialties (assists and rebounds). AR has one teammate who can consistently put up double digit points while CC has 3 (and two other all stars). If anything, that Sky offense relies on AR more than the Fever rely on CC. If CC has an off game they can still win but if AR does then the Sky could get blown out.

Nobody said triple double was easy. CC only did it 1 time so far. 12 consistent double doubles is difficult in the WNBA. We know this because it took one of the best women's basketball players ever to make the record in the first place. Reese took it from her while she is a ROOKIE and it's still active. The other reason it's impressive because of the many different teams she has faced with different standards and abilities on defense and she was still able to be consistent despite the switch ups. That's WAY harder than getting one triple double, especially because CC has the advantage of getting the ball first and commanding plays.

If 13 double doubles was so easy for a rookie in 24 years shouldn't there be more, this is one game we're talking about 13 in a row this is called consistency. 33% from the three isnt Caitlin Clark's claim to fame that logo three everybody wants to see the way it looks that thing doesn't have an effect on winning. You'll need to just accept it , it's not over yet though I don't see Angel Reese stopping no time soon. I would rather have 13 consecutive double doubles than one triple double any day, the team would also.

Caitlin Clark as a rookie is asked to do way more for her team. She handles the ball way more than Angel Reece hence the turnovers. And sets her teammates up for high percentage shots. Her teammates are starting to catch her passes. Then the rebounds. She does everything. These guys are only talking about the three point shots. Caitlin Clark made me watch women’s basketball. I watched my first women’s basketball game because of Caitlin Clark.

You know what’s hard for a rookie to do? Be a leader. Rookies come in hot reckless and physical especailly in their generation. Caitlyn Clark has shown her skills from 3ft to 30 ft shootings, but what’s even more impressive is the focus she has no matter what physical and contact or hate she gets; The lead she has in her team to not only improve her skills and recognition but to improve her team and involve them in the talk of the WNBA. That’s self-lesness! That’s a Leader in the making. She thinks like a leader and she plays like a leader. That’s hard to do. Also, she’s an all around player that can play mostly all parts of the game. That’s impressive as a “rookie”. Not to mention she talks like a professional player! That is why the top players like Lebron, Michael Jordan, Steph Curry even Serena Williams are supporting her and rooting for her.

That's only 3% difference with the legend while being the most targeted player on her rookie year. Even amongst the current 3 point leaders this season, her percentage is very similar: Kelsey Plum at 37.2%, Arike Ogunbowale at 34.8%, Sabrina Ionescu at 33.7%, Diana Taurasi at 35.4% while Caitlin Clark this season is also at 33.1%. I would, you can build a team around her right now! CC has to develop, maybe get stronger and learn the game more!

Right now I would give it to Caitlin BUT, if Angel pass Tina Charles for most double doubles in WNBA history😘 for most Double Doubles in a year as a ROOKIE, I would give it to Reese or co Rookies of the Year.. but great season for both of them so far 💯🙌🏽 One more thing. LA sparks failed for not getting Angel Reese.. Huge L..smh

At the end of the day, you can’t dictate to fans who they favor and it is obvious that they favor CC. That is where the excitement is coming from and that is why ticket sales are up and and every time the Fever plays, they have to move to a larger venue.
