I think the craziest thing about the Nike deal is not that CC got screwed, but that Nike are screwing themselves… they are losing tens of millions of dollars by not doing anything or even attempting to release ANY merch. Sure a shoe could take a while, but in this day and age with rapid prototyping, it can get done much faster than you think, and things like shirts or other clothing with a logo can be done in a matter of weeks.

Is that correct? Interesting. I visit relatives up there and see the yuppie employees from Nike in the local grub hubs. They are dressed to the nines in Nike gear (company requirement). Nike is partly responsible for Portlands downfall. Now, the original store is closed due to too much theft.

(1,500 people) It said they want to focus on growth areas, such as running, women's, and the Jordan brand. The layoffs included 32 vice presidents, 112 senior directors, and 174 directors, representing more than 40% of the total job cuts. They fired their CEO in September 2024. If you look at a chart of their stock price, you'll see why this all happened.

Once Clarks shoe is ready, Nike needs to advertise it and then do pre order only with a cut off date, limit number of shoes per address say 2 pairs per address. Nike can also have a limited run shoe where those that pre ordered will have their ticket number drawn and given first right of refusal to buy in their size, then those shoes will then be produced and shipped to them. This will stop flippers who use computers to jam the sales site from buying everything. Caitlin is about the Fan and not the flipper.

Need to chill on the "worst deal ever" talk. The only things we know about the deal are: $28million guaranteed, 8 year term, includes a signature shoe. Nothing else has been made public. I mean, she has a degree in marketing and has been in the public eye with endorsement deals for years. I'm gonna assume she knows what she's doing better than you.

@ 1. They are probably more focused on her logo and getting actual merch out first(they need the logo for her shoe). 2. It’s a HUGE deal to get your own shoe that Caitlin is probably helping design that looks the way she wants it to look and is a shoe she will actually wear. She’s not gonna say yes to the very first mock up. It’s going to be trial and error. It’s gonna take longer than a couple months. Then once it is designed, it has to go into actual production. So yes it can take up to a year.

The day the contract was signed Nike should have had no less than a dozen shoe ideas to present to her and the same number of merchandise ideas. They should have assigned her a design team to collaborate with her to get all this in motion ASAP. No reason there wasn’t a shoe for sale by the Olympic break.

Correct. The delay of the signature shoe is entirely explainable (and IMO they should not have announced that so early). It is a special custom, signature shoe and it takes time. It takes time because new special shoes these days are more complex and advanced than they used to be. They need more anatomical and dynamic research, more complex build, more testing and developments, and it has to be "right" from the start. You cannot F** it up! It needs more complex and advanced tooling. It needs a bigger production line, because the expectation is that it will sell really well, and the sales you miss "when it's hot", cannot really be recouped later. And it would likely be a mistake to release an intermediate, 'personalized' edition of an existing shoe, into the retail market, because of the confusion and loss of sales of the signature shoe, when that is released. So far so good. ... - But what isn't explained is the lack of other merchandize, beyond the pair of almost insultingly crappy T-shirts, apparently "designed" by the floor janitor, sneaking a log-in on some computer when they were out to lunch. That's still a mystery that has the stink of, well, politics?

My theory is they are doing something special for her Jersey retirement. Nike LOVES NCAA Caitlin. But they don’t seem to care about WNBA Caitlin. Maybe it’s different divisions of the company? It makes no sense. I’m hoping Nike is just waiting for the right time to do a big brand launch with her new logo and a ton of merch. That X post is very promising.

The company is a train wreck that's lost over 50% of it's value by doing incredibly stupid things such as severing it's relationship with Footlocker and trying to become an online retailer. As a result of the massive stock loss (over 50%) they were forced (and I mean they didn't want to do it) to fire their old CEO. At that point, an organization that wasn't completely bonkers would have hired an neutral outside CEO to take an objective look and shake things up. Instead, they hired from within. You can't find an analyst ratings organization that will tell you this is a stock you should own. She needs to fire EXEL sports from representing her. They have too many conflicts of interest from the other NIKE players that they represent and from NBA players that do want to see Clark shoes hurting their sales. This will cost hundreds of millions in the long.

She might be the reason they have not done anything, She's not going to let her name be attached to any old shoe or merch.
