I and most men don't have a problem with femanism helping to build women up to an equal playing field. What we have a problem with is the apparent need to tear men down with concepts like toxic masculinity, and angry man syndrome. As a grown man that was raised by a very self assured single mom i have always belived deeply in equality of the sexes and have let that guide my actions and beliefs all my life. If i find it hard to take anti male vitriol coming from a portion of the feminist movement, i can see why boys are growing up hating themselves.

This is why therapy for men usually needs to look different to therapy for women; in my work I find men open up more if we are working on something together, so the focus isn't on them. We have been conditioned to put out focus on women and care for them, so we feel uncomfortable being asked to talk about our own feelings.

It takes a real narcissist to dismiss a person whose been very successful at helping men, whilst also assuming she can do better. Stick to your lane Caitlin. It's comments and attitudes like those in this video that made me focus on men's issues as an occupational therapist: I realised that men have to put up with this sort of thing all the time, and we are expected to accept they are the villain, at the same time as being expected to tirelessly continue protecting women and building and maintaining the society that allows them to be interviewed and listened to. I look forward to times radio interviewing a man about the problems men face, but I won't hold my breath.

One of the most deluded (and condescending) conversations I've heard in a very long time. When did this woman decide she was suddenly a self-appointed expert on men? Was it when the role in the Adam's Family ended? Women like to express their feelings to other women because it makes them feel supported which is important to them. Men like to analyze problems and fix them, ideally themselves. This makes them feel empowered. On another point, most of the problems faced by teenage girls aren't caused by men they are caused by the spitefulness and cruelty of other teenage girls.

Men don't get prioritised in hospital, it's why we don't go. We don't talk about our emotions because women don't want to hear about them, they are busy talking about their problems which take priority. But I wouldn't say that women create the problem for men. I'd say other men are the problem for men, but women tend to gravitate towards the men causing the problem. This makes men hate the women, when really powerful men are the problem. This is usually because they can't do anything about the real problems which are societal issues, created by powerful men, and in their weakness they take it out on women. So I totally don't agree with incels and abusive men. But men do have problems that aren't recognised, so I do think society needs to change to offer men more job and training opportunities and specified psychological and medical health availability. But then we're all suffering so. F**k it.

I don't know if my situation in unusual but it is not uncommon amongst my male friends to talk about feelings but we don't do this in the same way as women. Women can't fix men's problems even if they want too. For example, therapists are predominantly women, more than likely feminists coming from academia, hence, they will never truly understand men's problems because most of their problems are involving women. And whether feminists admit it or not, it's always the mans fault, directly or indirectly. Red pill is the place some men feel understood. It's a shame that so much of it is toxic because there is certainly at lot of truth there that can help. Thanks' for trying to understand though. Catman.

I'm a man who talks about his emotions (at least so I thought.) I was raised by a therapist mother and was conditioned early on to do that...I don't necessarily like the gendering of this behavior. Is that not just my personality? I feel conversations like the ones in this video accidentally strengthen stereotypes through the necessity to state them for the sake of the argument. The more I hear "men tend not to share their feelings and need to talk more," the more I think "Have I not been behaving like a man?" or wonder "Am I not opening up enough? As a School Psychologist and a mother of a young man, I can safely say if you want to help (aka "fix") boys, then raise girls that don't bully, berate and humiliate boys throughout their childhood & continue to do so throughout their lifetime. Little girls (and eventually grown women) are far more damaging to a boys (man's) self esteem and mental health than anything else in their social environment. . You can count on one hand men in the UK who have birth fantasies and the fact that youre surprised men dont have them is, to me, ridiculous. Its good to get a woman's perspective on men but women should be very careful about making presumptions about men's natures based only on a woman's experience. Men are different in the vast and overwhelming majority of cases.

I LOVE Caitlin’s writing, she’s just about one of the finest columnists in the world. Which makes her hackneyed portrayal of Jordan Peterson as some sort of ‘messiah for incels’ so frustrating. It’s precisely these sorts of clichéd, sneering ‘he’s a dumb person’s intellectual’ attacks that convinces MORE people that JP must be worth paying attention to, not less. When will Peterson’s critics understand that in order to take exception with his views in a productive way they have to engage with them in good faith? As great a writer as she is Caitlin simply hasn’t understood his positions, nor explored his body of work deep enough to put herself in such a morally exalted position. For example, he isn’t a ‘climate denier’, he just believes that climate alarmism isn’t productive, and has spoken to a wide range of environment experts who agree. He isn’t ‘religious’ per se but he values the psychological representations found in religious/mythical texts and how they interrelate with human psychology today. Which, as a psychologist, shouldn’t be too surprising. And when he talks about the symbolism of female chaos and male order, a) it isn’t HIM who defined this! And b) he isn’t making any judgment that women are somehow inferior for being symbolically aligned to chaos. She probably thinks just because she’s a great writer she’s saying something new and edgy about Peterson, but she really isn’t. And it’s the ultimate insult to the thousands of men the guy has saved to proclaim to the world that he shouldn’t be listened to about men, when her book is so high on anecdotes that suit her hunches while being rather light on facts and actual useful and informed insight.

Women are not a right to have or be around. Maybe think of it as an improvement and evolution mechanism for yourself if a woman does not consider you boyfriend material. Also, pursue what you like doing, improve yourself and it will most likely solve itself somewhere on the way.

What relevance do you think "that humans are never satisfied" has? And for the last part of your statement, that's for animals. Sure could happen with people, but rarely does. We do not teach our future generation about psychology... we do it at the college level, but not as general knowledge. And we expect young adults to make long-term societal decisions, to vote, ... this sums it up almost perfectly "its on the back foot there. if young men try to do that they step out. they fear ridicule largely from girls not their fellow men. and they also fear being seen as predatory or creepy. so you've got a long way to go before boys can have the same playfulness about their bodies that we in our generations have." this is what im not hearing from caitlin. shes still kind of operating in trying to solve mens issues the same way they would help a woman. she mentions often that we dont have deep enough conversations or friendships and this is a misconception.we do not all require the same style of banter as yall. once that is accepted and we move on from it. they can operate in the world without a microscope on us.
