Yea this is exactly what I was looking for! There are almost no videos on dyeing synthetics and almost all white clothes are mixed!! Thank you!

I was hoping to see you crumple one of them back up and do a second color. I’m dying a beloved jacket that got some bleach spots in the pale pink so I was going to start with ultra pale pink but now I’m thinking of doing a reverse tie dye with bleach first and then add a color to it so it pops! I’ll have to take some before and afters of each process!

Thank you! I want to tie dye Tubigrip (I have to wear it on my legs and it looks depressingly medical), but it is a mixture of cotton, elastodiene and polyester. I want to do rainbows, so I'm going to need to do a bit more work, but this will be a start.

This was very helpful. A further tip to your viewers - the elastics I used popped as soon as they hit the hot water. So I'm no chemist but these were more 'plastic-y' like a white rubber eraser texture. I guess the more traditional type (more like a pink eraser like when we were kids) are better?? Hope that analogy makes sense. I don't have the packaging for the elastics anymore + I don't think they usually describe the material... At least, I'd suggest getting a couple of types if you are unsure or test one before you dye if you are boiling an egg or something! Also, your indigo sweater looks great - wonderful definition b/t the white & purple - was that a DIY as well?

Hi... I am actually researching, for the 100 million time, how to tie dye a bed canopy. Of course it's super easy to find a polyester canopy, but rarely a 100% Cotton canopy. And 100% Cotton doesn't have that soft, dreamy, fantasy, princess look that a bed canopy is supposed to have. I am going to place the canopy over my daughter's play area in our living room because I want her give her privacy and independence. But at the same time, still be right there watching over her knowing she is OK. I want to give her a space she can call her own. Her Barbie Dream house is in that corner of the room so I just thought it was perfect to add a canopy. I had planned for it to be a birthday present but everything I was reading was telling me that I wouldn't be able to do it at home. Breaks my heart it has taken me this long to find your video. Her birthday was Feb.10th. But now that I know I can do this project at home, I'm so super excited. Already purchased for the project is the Rit-More dyes, 3 colors, the ribbon to hang the canopy from the ceiling, the hook that screws into the ceiling, and the 3 canopies that I will be putting together because One and two layers is too sheer, and I think it looks better with multiple layers. I subscribed so as soon as I have it finished I will send you pictures of the finished product. I want to tie dye the canopies with her, then while she gone for the weekend,put everything together and hope she loves it!!!

Thank you! I bought a white dress to tie dye and thought it was 100% cotton, turns out it is mostly polyester and a little spandex. I was so disappointed, it was just the right style and I had filtered my search 100% cotton. I wanted more than one color. I wonder if there's a way to dye colors in sections. Probably not. I may try blue and purple, scrunch it one way for a light blue and another for a darker purple. If it doesn't turn out then I've learned a lesson and if it does, I'll have a fun dress. I did find a rayon and cotton mix dress and bought that, it will work with the other dye that I have. Then I found that the dye companies sell blanks... Solid white clothing, scarfs etc... for dying. Lots of pretty styles. So... eventually I'll decide on one of those after this experiment. I did find another brand of dye for polyester called I dye... they had a few packets in the local art & craft store (Joann's Fabrics) but were sold out of any color I would use. So now to find the colors I need and to experiment Thank you again!

Can you use two colours on one shirt? If so how would you do that?
@ChristinaCakesIt4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I’m not sure how to do that with the synthetic fabric boil method as I’ve never tried it. You could possibly do the whole first color through washing and drying and then do the whole process over with the second color but I’m not sure it would work. For two colors I would do the cotton method of my other video ❤️

Can’t wait to try by myself! 😍 for higher percentage of polyester, do u think the color will fade over time? Maybe after 10th/20th wash?

Thanks so much for posting this!! I've definitely tried to tie dye a poly-blend and it just came out... white. Haha. Question though: is there a reason you immediately rinsed out the dye once you let it soak? I know with the cotton method you usually let the dye sit for 24-48 hours, but is it better with synthetic fabric to rinse it right away? I wonder if letting it dry first would allow the color to set more, or if that would have the opposite effect?
@ChristinaCakesIt4 жыл бұрын
HI Shae! I'm glad the video was useful :) You definitely don't need to let the synthetic fabric soak any longer than after you boil it- the color will be really vibrant washing it out right after

do you think this dye would work better for poly/cotton blends that have a higher polyester percentage?
@ChristinaCakesIt4 жыл бұрын
Hi! If you use the RIT Dye More, the percentage of cotton to polyester shouldn't affect how it turns out! I tested items that were 100% polyester, and some that had lower percentages and they all turned out great!

What do you think about reusing the solution? It would help the consistency and dye is also hard to come by right now. Thank you!
@ChristinaCakesIt4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I have never thought of this before but it might work, but you’ll have to save a lot of liquid because it’s diluted in a huge pot. With regular dye that’s in the squirt bottles ( for cotton), you gave to use it within 2 days after mixing as it loses potency. ❤️

Love the video but maybe cut back on the “umm” s. It’s a little distracting. Just some constructive criticism. 💜💜💜 I honestly loved the video because you’re right, there’s not a whole lot of tutorials on how to dye synthetic fabric. I’m guessing you can’t do more than one color with this method?
@ChristinaCakesIt4 жыл бұрын
Thanks - my husband usually edits out the “umms” when he cuts my videos (I do it when I’m thinking lol). I’m not sure if two colors would be possible - I’ve thought that maybe doing a first pass, washing and drying and then doing it all over again with another color might work, but I haven’t tried it. Let me know if you crack that code!
