It's wholesome in comparison to the` failure and embarrassment one would normally receive. It's like, hell yeah man, were going to celebrate you because you're epic, even if your efforts are futile. I'm re-recording this song right now. The depth of this song really surprised me when I listened through a musician's ear. After singing this song for like 30 years in my car, I never realized for example, that the backing vocals "he's going for speed" are sung at a different time and pace than the lead vocal, you end up with this sort of delayed call/response. Really really cool. And what about the subtle guitar bends?? Never realized they even existed.

Profound. "The Distance" is a song by American alternative rock band Cake. Released in August 1996, "The Distance" was the first single from the band's second album, Fashion Nugget, and is considered one of their most popular songs.[4] It was written by the band's guitarist at the time, Greg Brown. "It is a song about success and failure, and failure of success, really," said McCrea in 2019. "It's a sad song, because there is no success. You can explode into the world with great magnificence, and still feel like the guy underneath the Mickey Mouse head, with the fan batteries that have stopped working properly, and it's dark under there, and everybody wants your autograph."[5] IMHO it's dark because you still haven't found your purpose and still on the hamster wheel running as fast as you possibly can but getting no where.

@rawman442 жыл бұрын
I don't think that's what the song is about. I believe "going the distance" here is not a good thing. What it looks and sounds like, to me, is that "going the distance" is working so hard at a job that won't ever reward your efforts and neglecting your own physical/mental health and relationships in the process. "She's all alone, all alone in her time of need" - he isn't there for her, because he's going the distance. "Long ago somebody left with the cup" and "No trophy, no flowers, no flashbulbs, no wine" - again, he goes unrewarded for his intense efforts yet continues to go the distance. "She's hoping in time that her memories will fade" - they are no longer together, either because he wasn't there, or just isn't alive, so she's hoping to forget him. Then we see at the end of the video he's going into the ocean, I interpret that as his death. He's worked himself into his grave. But, that's just one guy's opinion

Lyrics Reluctantly crouched at the starting line Engines pumping and thumping in time The green light flashes, the flags go up Churning and burning, they yearn for the cup They deftly maneuver and muscle for rank Fuel burning fast on an empty tank Reckless and wild, they pour through the turns Their prowess is potent and secretly stern As they speed through the finish, the flags go down The fans get up and they get out of town The arena is empty except for one man Still driving and striving as fast as he can The sun has gone down and the moon has come up And long ago somebody left with the cup But he's driving and striving and hugging the turns And thinking of someone for whom he still burns He's going the distance He's going for speed She's all alone (all alone) All alone in her time of need Because he's racing and pacing and plotting the course He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse He's going the distance No trophy, no flowers, no flashbulbs, no wine He's haunted by something he cannot define Bowel-shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse Assail him, impale him with monster-truck force In his mind, he's still driving, still making the grade She's hoping in time that her memories will fade 'Cause he's racing and pacing and plotting the course He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse The sun has gone down and the moon has come up And long ago somebody left with the cup But he's striving and driving and hugging the turns And thinking of someone for whom he still burns 'Cause he's going the distance He's going for speed She's all alone (all alone) All alone in her time of need Because he's racing and pacing and plotting the course He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse He's racing and pacing and plotting the course He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse He's going the distance He's going for speed He's going the distance Ah no, so sad, alright Oh no, oh no, no, no

This song is about not giving up, even when the race finishes hes still goin hard, metaphorically it is about a girl and not quitting and letting her go, the memories she wants to fade wont fade because he never quits, he never gives up even after the race/relationship is over and someone left with the cup/her, he still goes hard and wont give up on it/her. This song summed up is about going after what u want and never giving up win or lose

You're referencing 1 Corinthians 6:3, which says: "Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!" This verse is part of a larger passage (1 Corinthians 6:1-6) where Paul encourages believers to settle disputes and judge matters among themselves, rather than taking them to secular courts. He reminds them that: 1. As believers, they will judge angels (possibly referring to fallen angels or demonic forces) 2. They will judge the world (participate in Christ's judgment) 3. They are capable of judging trivial matters (like disputes among themselves) Paul emphasizes their spiritual maturity and potential, urging them to use their wisdom and discernment to handle earthly matters, in preparation for their future role in judging greater things.

what i dont get is: is he driving a car? like it suggests at the start with engines pumping and thumping, green lights and flags, he's striving and driving and hugging the turns. or is he on a horse? He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse, tophies flowers flashbulbs and wine suggests a different scene to engines flags and greenlights which are certainly not in horse racing

Jesus Christ is the way truth and life. This is the most important truth in existence. To understand this you need to personally read at least three books of the Bible, genesis, Mathew, and one you chose yourself. As you do you must do the inner work Jesus Christ taught. Start with forgiveness. Parents are easiest. Look inside for the grievances we all build up their and practice forgiveness inside your heart. It teaches your soul something important, heals parts that have become clouded. Please trust me. If you genuinely open up your heart you discover the truth within. Jesus Christ is lord.

@@Primatenate88 groove punk with a hint of ska... That's a great description of my band in high school. We played 3 Vans Warped Tours. We called ourselves ska punk, somewhere between Operation Ivy and Bad Religion. Right in that early 2000s edgy sound. I was a drummer, and I could play NoFX beats with a single bass drum pedal by basically making my right foot have a mini spasm once a second. We also loved the Chili Peppers and Primus. It was a fun time for rock bands
