Thanks! There were so many things I wanted to know before I first went, so that's why I make my videos :-) There's actually a lot less general merch than I expected - in Akihabara at least, unless I'm just looking in the wrong places! Love the video! We spent a whole day in Akihabara and barely touched the surface. We walked along from Suehirocho station, got distracted by all the gachapon, when we finally got to Akihabara station we ended up in Radio Kaikan at about 3pm and only got half-way through the 10 floors by the time everywhere was closing! We kept coming back in evenings as it was only a couple of stops from where we were staying (Tawaramachi station) and we still didn't get the whole of Akiba done! We will have to reserve two full days next time.

Another great video from one of my favorite places in Tokyo. Really like the positivity you emit in every single video. It's really fun to watch! The selection of your shops was cool, as an addition have you ever been to the MANDARAKE store in Akihabara? It's located just some streets away from the Super Potatoe in a tall black building - many floors high. There you find cosplays and accessories, books, vodeo games, vintage toys and tons of anime figures of any kind (used and new). Compared to the shops around Akihabara Station their prices are quite low. But you need a lot of time to look to the whole range of stuff there.

Was there just a month ago and to get the pokemon luckybag is really hard. Had to try a 2nd time in Yokohama because the skytree one was soldout (we waited for over 4h outside of the shop). The cosplay shop you named (acos) is a bit expensive but a friend of mine said they are worth it. It's well maid and the wigs are prepared for different styles. For the ones who plan to visit tokyo, if you want to buy figures check the prices, they vary a lot. also most of them are cheaper in nakano broadway. PS: Don't go to the "beef on sticks" store, they advertise wagyu beef, but that's just their way to say it's beef made in japan. It's kind of chewy and doesn't taste well. And if you want to eat takoyaki, there is a store in the food mall inside of the skytree, they are way better. PSS: If you want to play in the arcades and win some prizes, I think it's easier in the Taito Game Station ones, there I won a lot in comparison to the others. Sorry if my english isn't that easy to read, i'm tired and it's a long time since i wrote something in english :D

@@cakeswithfaces it depends, last time I got my Shanks (One Piece) figure in just two tries, but sometimes I had to try 20 times and still wouldn't win. The blankets are fairly easy, if you tried it a bit you can ask for help and most of the time the staff will place it nice, so you could get it with just 1-3 more tries. That would be an other good point in the video, "If you want an item and it's not in the position you like, ask the staff, they will help you (Except for the figures, they will be placed in their default position)". Also "If you want to play at the UFO catcher, think about what the item is worth and don't spend more. If you really want it you could still go to a used goods shop or nakano broadway. There nearly everything out of the UFO catcher will be sold" :D

@@marniespopz5126 I haven't seen a lot of Funko Pops in Japan; they're more of a western thing but you might find some in Don Quijote (branches in several main areas), Radio Kaikan (you can see it in my Akihabara tour video, right by the station), Yodobashi Camera (huge shop by Akihabara Station - a few elsewhere too) and Nakano Broadway has all sorts of figures and collectibles. If you like Q Poskets I've been seeing them more and more, especially as UFO catcher prizes.

Thank you for the vid! This spring I'm going to Japan and plan on 3 days in Akihabara. Day one to scout one side of the station. Day will be on the other. Day 3 is to revisit the stores I marked down and buy the sh*tload of stuff that I have no idea will fit in my luggage to get back home. This vid showed more than the others I have watched. Arigato gozaimasu!

Thanks! If you're serious about shopping, I'd recommend you go to Nakano Broadway as well. More secondhand stores, collectibles and cheaper prices than Akihabara. I have a couple of videos about it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHqqc4OCopaWoMk kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpmziHV5jL-Yh7c

They change up the prize figures every now and then so there are always new ones you want! Akihabara’s not really the top food place - I usually go to Coco Curry on Showadori or Mos Burger for lunch!!

Great video that deserves an update the next time you go. Sadly, Sega arcade is now gone. I like K-On! as well and always appreciate seeing the pictures of the figures of the characters from the show in your videos. Have you ever visited the Toyosato Elementary School? This is on my bucket list for our second trip to Japan, most likely in 2025. What are the prices like in the various used video game stores like Super Potato? I hear that you get better deals in smaller cities, like Osaka. Please keep making videos.
@cakeswithfaces8 ай бұрын
No, I haven't been there - I've been past K-On locations in London from the movie though! Hope you can make it! Prices tend to be lower outside Akihabara for most things - because it's the most famous place to go games, anime merch, etc in the capital city. Check Book Off for great prices, especially in other locations around Japan. And Nakano Broadway has great finds too.

Nice video! I liked how you showed some shops of the beaten path. How would you actually go about buying a figurine from a glas cabinet? I mean just grabbing a box is easy but how do you communicate you want something out of a cabinet? Would a sentence like "Ano figure kaitai desu" be OK?
@cakeswithfaces5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! :-) That's an excellent phrase, you'll have no trouble! Sometimes they have slips of paper to write the number of the cabinet, that you can juts hand to them at the counter, or you can gesture to the cabinet you want - they work there all the time so they know the deal :-)

Are there Japanese equivalent of fedex or other shipping stores? I've been hoping to go on vacation in Japan sometime and always wondered how I'd get the things I'd buy back to the US.
@cakeswithfaces5 жыл бұрын
I always just pack light & our things in my suitcase (I don’t keep the boxes of my figures, just pack them carefully). Some airlines let you have 2 suitcases each, and take a mini suitcase for your hand luggage. There are post offices & shipping companies in Japan, if you need to ship items home. There’s one with a cute logo of 2 cats! Sometimes they can help you with it at your hotel reception.

"I usually spend a whole day here" ...when me and my friend were in japan, we went there on FIVE days XD and on like the last day, there were some cosplayers (one as Haruhi) who were doing guided tours to all the anime merch shops and maid cafés, and when we asked them what shops they go to they named pretty much all the shops we went to xD

Akihabara is a mixed bag on prices. Sometimes you can find a figure or game cheaper then elsewhere, otherwise I tend to find them cheaper by luck at places like denden town, specific stores in kyoto, and even Ikebukuro + Nakano Broadway
@cakeswithfaces4 жыл бұрын
Among my friends we call it the "Akiba Tax" - because it's well known and there are a lot of tourists, I think sometimes shops put their prices up a little. I've found the best prices in Nakano Broadway, and in shops like Hobby Off, especially outside Tokyo.
