Cakewalk Tutorial E02 • How to install VST Plugins in Cakewalk

Dear bro, I have just downloaded and installed Cakewalk but in the instruments I see none other than TTS. Where can I get the Studio Instruments that should automatically come with Cakewalk? I have so many tutorials but none on this topic. I have gone to Utilities and Preferences as suggested but still no solution. Please can you help me 🙏.

Watch the previous video from the description. You need to check Studio Instruments during installation. The other 4 plugins are part of that bundle. If you have already installed it, then you have to find out where it was installed in your system.

@@adk_studios From my research TTS-1 has reached end-of-life. Cakewalk still has the DLL file installed, but only for legacy projects that may have used it. TTS-1 is a General MIDI (GM) player which, if I'm reading correctly, was only ever meant to be used to PREVIEW midi files that did not already have one or more instruments assigned within Cakewalk. Since workflows would normally have one or more particular (intended) instruments assigned during the creation process, it would SEEM at least that the functionally provided by TTS-1 is not really needed. One can still preview MIDI files using Windows Media Player, including the legacy version, if desired. As such, unless one is going through an older tutorial meant for earlier versions Cakewalk or Sonar, its disappearance from current and future versions of Cakewalk can be ignored. The example is still sound for demonstration of adding categories to the browser, but perhaps a pinned comment regarding the issue may be in order. :)

It depends on where you installed it. May be you installed it in C drive. Try opening the file browser and type in "melodyne.dll" in the search box on the top right corner to find where it got installed.

hey, i'd really appreciate it if you could help me out on this one; the problem is with reference to 8:59 in the video, i don't really have a folder called Program Files (x86) in the D drive. However, I have a folder of the same name in the C drive. Should I add that as a vst scan path instead? thanks!

I too didn't have that folder. The 'Program Files' and 'Program Files (x86)' in the C drive are the default locations where the OS installs 64 bit and 32 plugins by default. Since I did not want to install them in the default location to avoid my C drive from filling up, I install a lot of my softwares and plugins in D drive. Thats why I added those locations for myself. If you want to install it in C drive, use that. If you want to install it in D, use the location like in mine.

First clarify if the .dll file is not getting installed in your system by searching sitala.dll in your system. If you find it move it to the vst folder location.

No there is no specific settings for individual plugins. May be try changing the buffer size in preferences. However, some plugins might not get fixed at all

A software that has an installation procedure should be installed that way. A lot of files has to go to specific directories in our system. And on top of that, the installation wizard does the registry things and may be more that I don't know. So, no. Copy pasting will not work. I don't know about .sys files. But they sure sound important.

Copy pasting a plugin file that is intended to be installed by an installation procedure is not the best approach. I'm not sure why you did not get the dll file

It will only show up when a new plugin gets installed. Sometimes the plugin might get automatically sorted into categories.

Yes. Through Line In jack, if your laptop has one. My Dell has a single 3.5mm jack for everything. When I connect a cable, it will ask how I wanna use it (as mic input, or line-in input, or headphones output, or speaker output). But, if you are getting a keyboard, get one that also has MIDI out.

Update: I figured it out. In the Plugins dropdown I had my list sorted by manufacturer. As soon as I changed that to "Sort by Category" my list looked like it does in this video. Just leaving this here in case anyone else runs into this issue. Cheers.

Hi there. I was mixing for one of my projects when I randomly wanted to try using the hidden 'Drum Replacer' plugin (I'm an idiot) on one of the tracks which in hindsight I shouldn't have. Cakewalk immediately crashed, and upon reopening, audio wouldn't play for some reason. I have absolutely no idea why. I can see the tracks are technically playing, and I can see the volume on the individual tracks but the master bus isn't responding. I've tried multiple things, plugging in/out my soundcard, rerouting tracks, etc, but the audio just wouldn't play. All I hear is a popping/crackling sound when I hit 'play' and 'pause'. Audio otherwise works for new projects, so not sure what really happened post the software crash that was triggered by the drum replacer. Not even sure if that was what caused it. Can you/anyone PLEASE advise because I'm absolutely lost for ideas?

Something like this once happened to me too... But restarts usually fixes my issues. Try changing the driver Mode. Check if master is given to valid outputs. If nothing works, head over to the cakewalk reddit, or discord & ask the question.

Last time I tried, I couldn't convert audio to MIDI by dragging it into MIDI track. Then I dragged it to an instrument track & baaamm! It got converted! I don't think I have anymore experience that I can share that might help you... Try the above
