@@sanjai784 it has a 2-Stroke 45 degree 1,85,600 cc V16 Diesel Prime mover(name for mechanical motors that power the traction motors that move the wheels of a train) … this is the configuration for a WDP4D class locomotive…. WDP4D produces 4352 HP according to the classification. So this is the basic for a diesel locomotive. P.S : 1 cylinder has a capacity of 11,600 cc/cm3. So 11,600 X total 16 cylinders in V configuration comprises of a total 1,85,600 cc/cm3. 1 cylinder produces 272 HP So 272 X 16 cylinders would be 4352 HP total power output produced by the prime mover. It has 4 valves per cylinder SOHC configuration. 9.1 inch bore and 11 inch stroke. Idle is 200 rpm Redline is 950 rpm This V16 Prime mover has a Hybrid Turbocharger that can act as a centrifugal supercharger when needed due to its gear driven mechanism.

Yes absolutely. WDP4b series are two stroke engine made by GE. But at the same ALCO'S are 4stroke engine. Alco engine consume more diesel due to turbo lag issues leading to more smoke & low horse power less than EMD engines.

@@lakshminarasiman5554 true… that is why EMD 710 category prime movers use Turbochargers that are kind of hybridised in function… in low RPM and when more torque is needed, the gear driven turbo takes charge and supplies the necessary boost. In High RPM the turbos functioned normally as all turbos do. The Alco never used such kind of advanced mechanisms in their powertrains. But still the Alco chugging is unique !

Express Train la 24 coaches. If all 24 coaches are filled (total headcount will be 1600). If 70% seats are filled, Total passenger count will be 1120. So Cost for travelling (for example) from Chennai to Delhi = 6 liter x 2200km x 95 rs = 12,54,000 / 1120 people ~ 1120 Rs Fuel Cost per head.. But price of ticket in Non-AC Reserved Sleeper Class is 820, whereas 3rd AC is 2140. So 3rd AC la pona, 1.5 days ku meals expenses la add panna we will pay 3000 (approx). And if we are Middle class salaried people with 50-60k salary living in Metro cities (Chennai / Delhi), Loss of pay for one day leave will be 1.5k - 2k. Flight ticket for same route is 5.3k. So Railways for Middle class is actually not cost-saving. Only for Lower Middle class & People who are ok with travelling in Non-AC, it makes sense.
