My daughter is a freshman there and so many parents are asking how she got in. We knew about that 5th year stuff. My daughter took a creative writing which counted as a 5th. This is an amazing campus and they have all ready had so much stuff for parents and the kids got a week of orientation fun. It's a gorgeous town. Right by the beach. A ton of kids are doing dual enrollment in California schools so easier to do the 5th. Also they count it as a 5th if you skip a class or do algebra in middle school. - A 5th isn't required but helps with admissions.

I don't get the hate. My child is there and very happy. Got in as an out of state applicant. Did not have five years of English. The high school only had 6 class periods per day, so by the time kids took English, math, and science classes, schedules were already pretty full. It is tough for kids to fit all of this in, especially if you look at all of the other requirements (not necessarily recommendations)--and then add in the requirements that the state we live in imposes on the kids in order to meet high school graduation requirements. Having said that, CP SLO was not on the radar until fall of senior year, so my kid didn't prep and plan for this school in particular, but had started taking a language and advanced math in middle school. I believe that really helped, however those were just classes my kid was interested in/excelled in; in seventh grade, college was not on our minds so none of this was planned with that in mind. The application process for CP SLO was by far the easiest. No essays. Just inputting the classes and the grades earned. A little bummed they didn't want test scores, as they would've strengthened the app, but that's fine. You clearly look down on California based on your political views. This is a disservice to your clients. Your job is to support them and their goals. I wouldn't hire anyone who couldn't stay focused on that. Fwiw, we didn't hire anyone to help with college apps. I understand that some people do, but not everyone can and not everyone needs or wants to. Best to those applying this cycle. I hope you/your kid(s) find a college where they can learn, grow, and have fun. ❤

They've recommended 5 years of English AND Math for many years, actually. I seem to recall that was a requirement prior to Covid and change in ACT/SAT. Students do this by completing dual enrollment courses. A half semester dual-enrollment course counts for one-year. A-G requirements are also not unique to California - it's just called different things in other states (ex: CADR's for Colorado). Application is very low drama - all data-entry with no essays or activities.

It's a super quick application. Pretty much just a transcript.

As progressive Cal Poly men, our O-ring becomes stretched and leaky. It’s absolutely essential that we have a feminine product distributed in men’s restrooms so we can stay secure, dry and sanitary all day. 🌊🌈👨🏻❤️👨🏻🌈 Vote Democrat !!
