Memories flew, as I saw the picture added to this clip !!! Back in 1966 my wife and me we bought ourself a cottage like that. 8 years later we broke it down and build ourself a beautiful mansion on the same spot with all the works: garage, animal house, a swimming pool and a fairy garden. We lived there still over 40 happy years.....

Darlene, Cal's wife, always answered my e mails. What a great singer!!! Years ago my sister in law was visiting from W Va and I bought her two Cal Smith albums. How I wish I had those albums now. Jack Hall Huntsville, Al.

Oh my goodness! I can't believe I am seeing this song here. I loved it as a child and through the years, I tried to locate a copy with no luck. Thank you so much for posting. The lyrics are beautiful and I like the integration of violins with the other instruments.

Great title and lyrics employing the aspect of the world's most famous race for three year old thoroughbreds, the Kentucky Derby, whose mantra is "The Run For The Roses!" (Cal's head of hair was as exceptional as his voice. I'll take both!)

Cal's singing is smoother than cold syrup on a hot biscuit.

I do remember Dizzy saying that on live broadcast of a Yankees game. Pee Wee Reese was the announcer, Dizzy, the color analysis. My grandpa, from Hickory Flatt Mississippi, loved Dizzy.
