I just learned that my Grandfather was born in Montauro in 1869--I think this is a great video of that village !

Curious about why it’s so quiet and no one is about. Is it the time of day? It’s a beautiful village for sure!

It’s an older village with older people and it’s winter so people Hibernate and stay in. All the young folk are leaving these villages and moving to bigger towns unfortunately

Thank you for the tour! I love these out of the way adventures you bring us on. Very beautiful but where is everybody? Is this a summer town or is it a sleepy village that history forgot and its young people abandoned for the North of Italy and the Americas? I did not realize that the Ottoman Turkish invasion of Italy made it all the way to Calabria! I know the main force occupied Apulia. I'll have to do some more research on this topic. Many Calabrians have snippets of DNA from Anatolia which I attributed to the Byzantines but maybe there's some Turkish contributions. All interesting indeed.

Yes we love these tours too! Many Greek towns here Many with Byzantine flags and Greek flags. This one isn’t so Greek as of is more medieval. This is why I love Calabria. So many layers of history. It’s mind blowing. Thanks for coming with us!!! It was a treat

And yes these villages are being abandoned. There are many old timers still there but it is slowly losing residents unfortunately.

@@CalabriaDreaming I understand. I am a descendent of the Calabrian diaspora as my family on both my mother and father's sides left Calabria in several waves during the 1890s, 1920s and 1950s!

@@CalabriaDreaming I heard that 15-20 years ago there was a popular saying in Italy that sums it up: "l'america sta qua".

Energy? Where is the people? Looks like a ghost town
@CalabriaDreaming2 жыл бұрын
It is definitely a sleepy town full of retired folk. The energy is down by the beach.
