The reason why British led India looked so clean and disciplined is simple, the British led India was an Apartheid society like South Africa. The White dominated regions like Park Street in Kolkata, was clean with wide streets, good sewage system, whereas the Indian Bengali dominated region of Shyambazar lacked such services. Moreover the government was run by military governor generals who ruled with an iron hand, punishment was severe, so if any one threw trash or spat on the road, he would probably be beaten and fined very high. Which is why people didn't break laws, today there are some places in Kolkata, where cops get beaten for asking young men to wear a mask and helmet. Our politicians don't give a rat's ass about cleanliness or about us.

@Rahul i agree with your point that it is us who vote for them, but more than that they become leader because of their power and money. They offer free stuff coz they know people in our country do not even get basic necessity, they make fake promises nd never fulfill them because they know if they do what will they promise for next time, how will they get more power and money. Also, i have to say not all of them are like this but those who are clean end up disappeared because of those with power, because of some leaders the independence of india was delayed by many years coz they were fighting for power. The constitution of india is weak because our governement is weak, people do not follow the laws coz they are not equal for everyone, our governement officers are one of the first to destroy laws and not follow them, people are not heard by the government. Cases takes years and generations to get solved and get justice.

Only source was entertainment was may be a radio and movies twice a year. If you were a woman and your husband beats you, you just shut up and listen, less than 5 % women worked in offices. Outside city no marriage without dowry. If you are dalit, it was even worse. Even if there was there was dalit atrocity act, crime against Dalits were very common and no offenders got punished. No matter how many policies you bring for janta's good.. thy wud hardly work because of the enormous population of India. Our governments dont focus on this issue at all.. im nt blaming bjp or congress or any other party specifically. None of them did anything about population control.. which is the root cause of all issues in India. High population >> Less jobs and opportunities >> corruption and crime >> poverty and inequality >> high consumption of resources within country hence less exports and high imports and so on... Mudde ki baat koi krta hi nahi.. then we say Britishers were good.. no they were not.. they enslaved us, kept us like animals in many parts of India.. a history student won't say shit like this at all.. dont insult our freedom fighters by saying this..

It's much much better now. Mega structures like +50 storied buildings & flyovers, wider roads, abundance of street lights, abundance of food with cuisines from all parts of India & abroad, multinational companies setting up offices, much stronger public transportation and what not. All this modernisation yet it hasn't lost it British era touch either with monuments & buildings like Indian Museum, Raj Bhavan, all those in dharmatala, Park Street Cemetery etc. Overall, it's more beautiful now but yes it's not perfect.

Atleast public upkeep was much better in colonial times. no garbage on roads. Who do we blame when crores are scammed by govts now? when crores are digested in the name of excise duty on petrol. And in return we get street full of unauthorized enroachments, no walking space, construction debris and solid waste?
@earth2k663 жыл бұрын
You seem to ignore the fact that these streets were piled with dead bodies just 3 years ago before this footage was shot. Remember the great famine of 1942-43?
@ruchivabz52843 жыл бұрын
@@earth2k66 I am not saying overall we were better in colonial times. It was a dark age of exploitation and discrimination. Condoning colonial rule would make a mockery of the greats like bhagat singh and Subhash Bose 🙏. All I want to say is public unkeep was better. And today we have no one to blame but ourselves. Also the great famine is a dark chapter in Bengal's history... There was no socialist policy by the British. However even after the famine streets were spik clean. Indian metros went from great to worse in a matter of 70 years.
@doctorgamez24103 жыл бұрын
@@ruchivabz5284 Dude the public upkeep was not necessarily better overall. We have far more industries and favorites today, and that contributes to pollution. Even today, main roads and important locations are still clean. A few clean streets in this video is not the reality of that time.
