I did 13 in the Marines and my last 7 in the Army. I was amazed of how little used thermals/Flirs were in the infantry of both services. I was a Stinger guy in the Marines and we always had thermals/flirs on our weapons or weapon systems (Stinger) to help engage a/c at night. After 9/11, our patrols would have at least, half as many thermals (pas-18s and 13s,), as light based NVDs. You could use them for day and night, but they see so much more than light based NVDs. Yes seeing your paq-2, peq-4, 15 laser was needed, but they have systems that see in both spectrums now. But seeing some a’hole hiding in brush with nods....good luck with that. In the Marines, we would would mount our thermals on your weapons b/c they were big and bulky (especially the 18), and wore the 7s or 14s. But when I transferred over into the Army, tech had gotten so small so fast, that I ran my 14s on my weapon in front of my ACOG/RCO or Elcan sight with a pas-23 over my left eye. Best of both worlds and I loved it. But if I had to make a choice, I would take the thermals over light based NVDs, and yes I (we) did do cqb (training & combat) with both. Trying to clear a room with a pas-18 was just stupid, put preparing for the worst, well works. Just because you think it won’t happen, doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Thank you to my Cold War brothers who engrained that mentality into me and my fellow Marines. Wished we had passed a lot more of their wisdom into the post 9/11 crew. Try to have some fun ladies and gentlemen, and be safe out there.

How do you feel about the new quads with thermal capability?
@astroidother36094 жыл бұрын
Hi Jamey. I am looking to get into NV and Thermal, mainly for hog hunting here in Texas. Have in mind a PVS 14 WP Gen 3 and a Flir PTQ 136 breach. Possibly both mounted on a bump helmet to start. Any thoughts and possible next steps to get familiar with both? Right now I just have a Sightmark Wraith NV scope. Thanks

Did you guys ever use dovetail or has it always been ball detent since the beginning of time? And if you did use dovetail, did you use wilcox or norotos mounts? Thanks!

There are no videos on youtube showing what it looks like through your goggles. How does the 36 compare to a 20? Why is the 36 so elusive?

@Glockshooter09 He eliminated the threat. Why do you want details of precisely how he killed the guy? He probably shot the guy in the chest and/or the head. No need for details.
@Glockshooter095 жыл бұрын
Yin Chi Guy thats your opinion, my opinion is details are important. What worked, what didn’t? What is wrong with asking?
@patrickb-man13095 жыл бұрын
@Glockshooter09 Fair. I understand some people don’t know that killing someone is not complicated. “Stitching” up the middle of the torso (shooting into the spine and heart area) and possibly into the head and continuing to shoot until it is obvious that the person is no longer a threat is what works. If they are still a threat because of drugs or armor, headshots or shots to the hip/pelvis area are the next best areas to disable someone. This is doable with any size round (5.56 or otherwise) no matter who the person is.
@patrickb-man13095 жыл бұрын
@Glockshooter09 To simplify: Shoot center of chest area (upper torso) until they are no longer a threat. If this does not work fast, shoot head or pelvis.
@caldwelljamey5 жыл бұрын
Not going into details on social media. Hit me up in person and Ill give you my thoughts and process for eliminating the threat. Better yet, come take a class from me and learn even more. 👍🏻
