Googled this. Composer Thomas Parisch says : "... it was really fun to work with this outstanding singer. Dimash truly is a natural when it comes to musical expression and his range and control spanning several octaves are absolutely unique. I really wanted to use and showcase all this in the song. Originally I was writing for two and a half octaves, which I thought rather large already. But in the recording with his improvisation towards the climax, he pushed it beyond and unbelievable three and half octaves. To witness that live was a real treat. A fun fact about the vocal recording is that him being Kazakh, he sang in a language he is not fluent in. So he truly did a remarkable job conveying all that emotion while he had to pay special attention to his pronunciation of the Mandarin lyrics. Apart from that, we had other complicating factors of the production since it was spread out all over the world. Only the piano was recorded in L.A. (for which we got the one and only Randy Kerber - what a pleasure and honor!), while the vocals and other band instruments were tracked in Bejing, and the orchestra was recorded in Budapest (but monitored remotely from Beijing; deadlines left no other choice). I actually got to go to China for the Beijing part. It was nice since I finally got to meet the whole team from Tencent and also got to work with Dimash personally. A truly memorable experience."

I do think Dimash is taking on a lot of different types of songs partly because it's makes good business sense but I think even more than that he does it because he is genuinely interested in so many different areas. He has developed vocal skills that allow him to take on a greater variety of challenging songs than any artist I'm aware of. And he presents himself in a way that would allow him to sing jazz, rock, RnB, rap, metal, pop and opera (or any combination f them) in a convincing way with world-class vocals. Ultimately, I think Dimash's "niche" is Dimash. That people will learn about him because he sings a song in their preferred genre but that they will be intrigued enough to listen to songs by Dimash outside of their normal habits and find that they also like them because Dimash performed them.

That is a great point. There are very very few that can do that, but I agree that Dimash is one of them. It is against what most people teach when it comes to being an artist or performer, but every now and then someone can transcend that.

@@CalebColesMusic Dimash's path to success may ultimately be harder because of the diversity of his repertoire but it may make his career bigger and longer lasting if he can pull it off. Personally, that is what I hope he does but I understand that it would be an exception and for normal people specialization is the best we can hope for.

Caleb, the singing did not stop when you stopped the video. You missed a very interesting part where Dimash blends his voice with instruments and it is hard to tell one from another. It is unbelievably beautiful! I was never a particularly religious person before, but I should say Dimash made my life so much more spiritual, as if I discovered a church for myself. Spirituality is Dimash's main secret, not just a talent or vocal cords or good training...

I don't believe Chinese/Mandarin uses articles. I've edited a few papers by Chinese and had to put the articles in, so they may have needlessly added "the" in the translation.

I have always said the song is way to beautiful for a game. Dimash was actually still on the Singer 2017 when this was created. The words are so beautiful and the graphics are gorgeous! Before I knew this was a game, I came up with my own story line and as you can well imagine, it had nothing to do with a game...LOL. Thank you Caleb! I could listen to this song over and over.
