The biggest issue I see is that she and many other people with personality disorders like her are allowed to study and graduate from anything mental-health related. I come from a South American country and at the university where I graduated we have special admissions exams for THIS exact reason, for whoever wants to study psychology even at a Bachelor’s degree level (she was allowed to get a Master’s degree ffs). The exams I’m talking about are actual psychological tests administered by psychologists that are also professors, along with an individual psychological interview. Not everyone is allowed to study psychology there, some people take the tests even 3 times throughout multiple years, and they never make it in because they themselves have a real diagnosis. I cannot understand why the US doesn’t have this in place.

When I was 10,000 dollars in debt, Besides rent and utilities, my food/groceries spending was $200. My total expenses were just rent + utilities + $500. $200 for food, $300 for haircut, TP, essentials. No going out, no purchases, nothing. no car. I cooked at home 100% of the time, I did not go out, nor order uber eats NOT EVEN ONCE. Certainly not starbucks, I had no clothes bought within the last 3 years. I lived in a 400sqft apartment. My laptop and phone were 5 years old. I didn't even have a coffee table and sat on stools at my desk because I couldn't buy a chair. I had only one pair of shoes from 5 years ago. I remember desperately wanting a pair of basic nike sneakers but I didn't have $150. Almost my whole paycheck went towards my debt and after that a 6 month and then 1 year emergency fund. Now that my net worth is close to 100k, I order uber eats once or twice a week. I have a new macbook, and buy decent furniture and clothes. And my credit score is now 800. What is even this woman. I am in an eerily similar situation as the child (im an adult now). My mother spent half of my life giving money to a family that robbed her of every penny and constantly doubted my ability to succeed in life. I have graduated college with no debt and will be commissioning into the military to give myself a better life, but I am torn. My mother is guilting me into buying her a home as soon as I am able to use a VA loan. I don't feel comfortable taking on that level of risk for someone that has never been good with money, but if I don't help her she will depend on accruing debt from people who do not care or respect her in any way 😔
@cau14715 ай бұрын
@LOL-kq2dd I don't want to sound like an a**hole, but do NOT take out a loan and buy your mom a house. It's gonna fuck you over so bad. If you were never your mom's priority, she has no right to demand anything or to be your priority. Never take out loans for anyone but yourself. If you feel so guilty, help her out here and there, but make it clear that you're not going to take on a loan to buy her a house. She should have learned to deal with her own finances and be responsible when she was your age. Yes, she gave you life, but you didn't ask her to do that. That was a choice she made on her own and you owe her nothing for it. I'm pretty damn lucky to have the family I have--my mother would never ask me to take out even a small loan for her. She would never expect me to buy her a house, even if I was making enough money to do so. My parents drilled into me the importance of finances and not going into debt, especially not for someone else. Anyway, I hope you're doing well. I hope everything works out for you, whatever ends up happening

@@amandadsouza3767 I know right? The majority of America is surviving on a low income. You could make overnight oatmeal, a salad, yogurt with fruit, soup in a thermos, a burrito, etc etc or perhaps she could buy cheap meats in bulk and meal prep them in advance. Leaning on the convenience of other people making food for you is going to become expensive and enable lazy behavior.
