(This is not the recipe used in the video but is one that I love. Our regular line of soaps do not contain palm oil. If you you want a palm free recipe, play around with adding more butters and/or olive oil.)
30% Lye Concentration
6% Super Fat
40% Olive Oil
20% Coconut Oil
10% Palm Oil (I look for Palm that is certified by Palm Done Right)
10% Rice Bran Oil
10% Castor Oil
10% Cocoa Butter
1tsp ppo* Sodium Lactate
*Per Pound of Oil
I soap at room temperature - which means the oils and the lye solution are in the 65-75 degree range.
Missouri River Soap is not responsible for any outcome that results from testing this recipe. Follow all safety precautions when handling sodium hydroxide and making cold process soap.

That looks awesome. I love orange, and I'd like to know what rosemary and orange smells like. As an Australian with native teatree and eucalyptus trees, I can tell you they are a wonderful combination. Teatree is well known for antibacterial properties, and eucalyptus is a fabulous stain remover and all round smell. This is a wonderful combination for anyone who might have bacterial or fungal skin infections- it won't cure them per say, but it will help. (anecdotal Aussie evidence ;) )

Y'know Holly, I think the reason I love your soap so much is because you keep the tops of the bars simple, and the design inside is where you pack the punch! I purchased a bar of soap from another maker, and it has the frosted top with embeds...and it smells lovely, but it's really hard to hold ( and it was pretty expensive 😢). Whereas your soaps smell oh so lovely, look pretty, are easy to hold, affordable, and I can always get at least a few bars when I'm ready to order! I can't wait to be able to order once I'm moved and can start using my wax melter! 🤗 I'm meeting with the realtor on Friday afternoon to get a valuation on our house and set up a game plan to sell. This company guarantees offers in 3 days of they sell your house for free. As long as we get enough to purchase a decent home in Washington, I'm down for that!

Have been a fan of your videos for a long time keep up the great work and stay safe. The beauty of using goat milk powder is that you can increase or decrease the amount of goat milk or any other powdered milk you add without adding extra liquid. That is if you want make a soap with 4% or 20% or anything in between you are able accurately measure it.

Give it a generous spray of 98% alcohol. If that’s not working, you might also want to try a water discount. Good luck!
@moriversoap
@moriversoap 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely use a high percentage alcohol to spray after making the soap. I then typically spray a few times in the next 48 hours. Allow your soap to fully cool down in the mold prior to unmolding and cutting. Reducing water also helps. Sometimes even room temperature changes, humidity changes, the fragrance, etc., will still cause it. You can then steam it or do what I do...don't worry about it! The ash is going to wash off in the first use.

Great soap! I have two questions. Where did you say you purchase your scents (essential oils) from and do you put your soap in a freezer or oven because it comes out so nice and white. I would think that the milk and honey it it that it would turn a more dark yellow. Also,my wife has a better sniffer then me. I take my blends for her to check.LOL

Question does the Lye loose any potency when you have crunchies? thanks
@moriversoap
@moriversoap 2 жыл бұрын
That reaction is just a natural occurrence of mixing sodium hydroxide and water. Normally it just goes all in. When I strain it, I am obviously loosing that tiny bit of lye, but it will just create a tiny extra super fat which I consider in my recipes.

I really want to use my fresh Rosemary in my garden to infuse olive oil and use in soap making. Can I use it fresh or do I have to dry it first?
@moriversoap
@moriversoap 11 ай бұрын
I have not done it myself. A quick google search shows that some think you can use fresh as long as it's pureed very well. I would make sure to strain it so there are absolutely no large pieces that could spoil.

I know you soap with the lye at room temp is that why it comes out looking creamy? Does it ever gel?
@moriversoap
@moriversoap 2 жыл бұрын
My soaps always go through gel even though I soap cooler. The large amount of soap plus the wood molds ensures that the soap gels. The creaminess is due to recipe and milk additives.

Thanks! I usually mix up the TD just before I make soap. However, I will keep the leftover mixture and use it within a week or so. It has to be sealed up or the water will evaporate and the TD will dry up. Some people mix it ahead of time in a squirt bottle with stainless steel balls inside to help shake it up. I have found that I prefer to just mix what I need for each soaping day.

How do get the orange eo to last? i've always found that by the time the soap has cured for 4 to 6 weeks, the scent is all but gone.
@moriversoap

I have never used the orange on it's own. I always mix it with other oils. That being said though, the 10 fold orange from Bramble Berry is the best I've ever used.

Make sure you're using folded orange or lemon essential oils. Also, make sure you pay attention to reviews as they will clue you in on if it's a good one or not. Sometimes blends are better such as using Litsea Cubeba, Lemongrass, or Lime.

For this particular batch, it's not much more expensive than fragrance oil prices. It does look like a lot but remember that I'm making 40 lbs of soap and I'm using a proper amount for the batch. We buy our essential oils wholesale and not in little bottles from Young Living, DoTerra, etc.. They really rip people off. Haha!
