This guy is brilliant. Guys like him should be the ones they feature in Bodybuilding magazines instead of these hormone enhanced freaks of nature. This guys emphasizes form, function and aesthetics which is what body building is about and he always stresses safety and dispels all these myths that are noting more than locker room broscience

I was definitely not blessed with great calf genetics. But they're growing slowly but surely. I do however have a big chest, good back, solid arms and nice quad sweep . In my opinion. Weak hams and calves, traps too i guess. My point is, try to be thankful for what you DO have. I forget sometimes but I have to remind myself that even if I wasn't blessed in one area, I certainly was in another. Prospective.
@manuelolivares42366 жыл бұрын
rminitials I have big quads and hamstrings but terribly small calves. I use to think I was the most unlucky person ever. Just realizing some folks are missing limbs and have other disabilities that don’t allow them to train traditionally, made me more great full. Prospective is key.

Thanks Ron for this great info. I have structural issues with my legs (bad knees and a bad right ankle) but now knowing that the secret is focusing on the big toe to get the peak contraction of the calf is a gold nugget that I can work with and I'm glad that concentration on form over weight is exactly the right thing to do - not just for the calves, but the entire approach to each body part.

Awesome info Ron. Didn't know about how you should concentrate on the big toe, going inward like that. Will try it. Haven't worked out since 1980 and started again 2 years ago.I'm 53 now. I've always had smallish legs and I decided to really work on my legs this time around. I'm making excellent headway, particularly my calves. They've been growing in strength and size constantly. I HAVE been going all the way down, and all the way up, but not necessarily going on the big toe. However, I know I haven't been leaning outward either. I'm very deliberate in my motion and always pushing the amounts of weight higher, bit by bit. Very exciting. Back in the 70's when I was a teen my gym was the very first in town and it was also the only gym to incorporate the Nautilus chain-driven machines (still have them to this day), so I was also taught the Arthur Jones/Ellington Darden method of high intensity training. I am thoroughly back into training and loving it more than when I first trained as a young man. The owner of the gym, at that time was 70 and in peak shape. He lived in the front of the building and the gym was in the rear. Being just 13 and not having much money, he allowed me to clean the gym once a week for membership. Lasted for three years until I got my first girlfriend, and that kinda ended my free time for working out. Anyhow, glad to come across your vids tonight and will continue watching. Really appreciate your style of teaching. Thanks bro, and God bless you.

I don’t think there’s any secrets to building calves. Most important factors are to go beyond. I built 20”calves with freaky tibia no gear or hormones Hard and heavy With Extreme contraction until you reach complete failure, That’s when My sets begin. It’ll take you to another realm.

@TomThaBom949 жыл бұрын
thankyou ron, very usefull. I have a question: I have a little knee injury, and I know I have to give is soms rest. But Im afraid to lose muscle if I skip a legday.. so after how long of not training do you lose muscle?
@Ironchestmastervip9 жыл бұрын
+Tom Eeckhout The first thing I would say about the injury is when the body is in pain that is a built in mechanism of protection. What were you doing that caused the pain? Whatever it was - I would stop. There are some leg exercises that will definitely cause injury if you deviate from good form. This is one of the reasons why we created Arc Movement Technology -- first is to protect you from injury and secondly to develop the maximum amount of muscle in the least amount of time. It is hard to advise you specifically without knowing all of the details and without seeing your form and technique. Squats are the number one exercise to build muscle and done correctly can rehab bad knees, but if done poorly can completely destroy the knee and the same with leg extensions. The muscle depending on how hard you have worked them need between 24 and 72 hours for recovery after 72 hours the muscle should be worked again. There is a saying "no pain - no gain". There is a difference between muscle soreness from working out and muscle and joint damage. Be careful and don't further injure yourself for fear of losing your gains. God bless you I hope you heal soon. Let me know. Ron

+Ron Williams ron, thankyou really much for all the effort you took to answer me! Im from the Netherlands so my english is not that good but let me try: in the past there was a period I used to do a lot of things that entrusted my knees. I ran 10/15 kilometres often, I had to do work where I had to sit on my knees a lot, and, I think I used to squat with a imperfect form. After doing this for 2/3 years I notice my knee(s) are experiencing the consequences. I could run less and less because of stabbings in my knee. Unfortunately I had to stop running. Now I know how to squat and deadlift etc. But the damage made in the past is really frustrating. I know I have to give it enough rest, but I feel bad when I cant perform my daily routine.. I have another question if you dont mind: I was looking back at your videos and I heard you saying you don't do shoulder presses. I was training my shoulders today and thought about. And Im wondering: are you training the same muscles if you do side raises as you do shoulder presses? Because if not, is there another exercise to train the same muscles as you train while doing shoulder presses? Thanks for the time and energy, your videos are amazing

i now this is too late answer, and i hope that your pain was gone long time ago... but for the future "so after how long of not training do you lose muscle?" do NOT worry about that , because once built muscle, can easily be re-built again, much easier than building it from the scratch. Safety and health on the 1st place, as Ron said, then worry about muscle loss. I had a periods when i didnt worked out for couple of months, talking about 3-4 months, because i was lazy... i lost my arm gains , but i always get them back between 2 weeks and 1 month. Which is much faster then how much i needed time to get them gains in the 1st place.

If you already have huge calves but only in the inner leg, how do you build the outer calves? Is it just genetic shape? or is there a way to engage or isolate just the outer calves? my inner calves have a massive ledge but the outside has just a tiny ledge and I want both ledges to be similar in size like on the thumbnail of this video.

When I used to lift weights no matter what I did my calfs never grew. I want to know how can I make my calf muscles bigger?
