He murdered the guy, mutilated and dismembered his body, concealed the remains, destroyed evidence to cover his tracks, engaged in arson - all of which are felonies. He eventually pled guilty, and after all that a court gave him ten years?? At every turn victims are cheated twice - first by the murderer and then by the judicial system. Such a sentence is a slap in the face of the bereaved family.

MANSLAUGHTER!?!??!?! That is a disgrace. Even if the victim started the fight the fact that this dude savagely dismembered him, threw him the trash, tried to cover up his involvement, and now won't reveal the location of the rest of the body seems like grounds for a higher murder charge. I can't imagine what the victim's family is going through. Mercy!

Can we just shout out to the homeless person who brought attention to the body part in dumpster? If they hadn’t done that no one would have ever known anything. It would have been really scary and a lot of the time the person that finds the body part is looked into and the homeless aren’t always looked at positively. Also, from what I can tell it’s a lot faster to get a search warrant on a suspect’s residence in the US. If you watch the first 48, that can happen on scene or in less than a day especially since he was the last to see him and all the arson.

The GF would have had to known more about the murder. Lied to the cops to give a false alibi for him, then was there when he burnt his own hand to cover up knife wounds and take him to the hospital. Then there's the burnt vehicles, unless he walked or had another accomplice, someone had to have picked him up from the burn sites. This case is proof that the sentencing system needs a major overhaul & murderers should NEVER be considered for release until they've disclosed where he/ she disposed of the victim/s. RIP Chad

@@danis4054 I live in Australia and we're just as bad with sentencing, I think it must be a Commonwealth thing to be really pathetic about giving long sentences for any crime. I've known people who have committed serious crimes (IMO anyway) and they walk away with Good Behaviour Bonds &Conditions, Bail and then probation, sometimes with community service orders but that's about it. Even murderers here, a criminal would have to be very unlucky to get 20 yrs, so the crime would have to spark enough outrage publicly for he/she to remain in prison after that. This case REALLY bothered me, I watch a lot of true crime eps, and this one got to me. Maybe it's because I have kids Chad's age, or he was attacked by someone he must have trusted, then the fight for his life, murder, dismemberment, covering up the crime in SUCH an obvious way, just to get away with next to no punishment, and zero for the GF who had to have been complicit. Even the thumbnail on this video, he was young, healthy & had no idea when he went to the "friend's" that he'd end up dead with not even a body for his family to bury. Dean should never be released, because on levels of evil, he'd be pretty high up on my list. Blah blah blah, rant over at last!!! I think I need to switch off my empathy switch for a little while 💔or avoid true crime eps until I can be more detached about the cases & victims. P.S My name is Julie just in case you find yourself replying to me again here or on another video 🙂

I don't know for sure ( I don't live in Canada ) but after watching quite a few Canadian cases it seems that justice is rarely equal to the crime in Canada. They didn't even bother to charge him with the 2 acts of arson he committed. Which he probably would've been given somewhere near the same, if not an even stiffer sentence, if they would've charged him with those 2 arsons alone. I mean, he obstructed justice in the most brutal way possible, by cutting his body into pieces and throwing him into dumpsters like common trash. Even worse is the fact that he's never disclosed what he did with the rest of Chad's body. Leaving his Mother to forever wonder what happened and where he is.

We even in America would have given him something for dismembering the corpse and the arson, the girlfriend would have been either charged or put pressure on her to ray on the guy. There's a plea in American court where if a death comes from a fight and u call 911 and act remorseful you might get manslaughter but yeah they would have given him 20 years for the murder the gross something of a corpse, arson and obstruction of justice. But honestly Americans can be extremely racist even still so if he had a good lawyer they might have thrown out the arson.

Excellent police work...not so much for the Canadian justice system. Ten years and a manslaughter charge for everything Dean did to Chad, the cover up, and not revealing the location of rest of Chad's body is appalling! The girlfriend should have been charged with obstruction and given some time in prison. I have a hard time believing that she wasn't an accomplice. RIP, Chad and prayers for the family.

Manslaughter is a strange charge. Its proper use is surely to punish someone for killing a person unintentionally during a criminal act where they couldn't reasonably foresee that their actions might lead to the death of another. I fail to see how this applies here, particularly in a jurisdiction with the intermediate degrees of murder prior to First Degree or Capital murder. His port mortem actions must cast considerable doubt on a manslaughter charge and argue in favour of second degree murder, and it's hard not to think he absolutely got away with it here - surely the prosecutor should have at least tried for a second degree conviction whilst leaving the option of manslaughter open to the jury.

Yes I dont understand it. Only reason for man slaughter verdict for a murder is if they had absolutely no evidence, just circumstantial and no one admitted it. It's better than nothing in that situation. If they did trial for murder without reasonable doubt they might loose. Must be only reason

Anyone who can do what Dean did, should never be free to walk in society again. He never displayed remorse, even when Chad's mother begged for him to tell her where he was, then did everything in his power to hide his part in the murder. Dean is an awful human being who should never have an opportunity to kill or harm anyone else EVER; and it's probably one of the few times I'd be ok with the death penalty.

The way this case came together was beautiful, circumstances aside. I think that "sentence" was a joke, and a bad joke at that. Going to such great lengths to dispose of evidence should automatically bump the charges up to murder and carry a sentence of at least 30 years. His poor mom, and his dad even though he was probably fed up with the son and his troubles, had to feel some kind of way knowing that he gave him the ride straight to his murder scene.

I think it’s a fair sentence. He gets drunk and comes to his house and tries to fight him, and ends up getting stabbed. If that happened in America, Stand Your Ground laws would have allowed him not to be charged at all provided he called the cops when it happened. 10 years is fair for manslaughter.

Agreed ! Not to mention the girlfriend. SHE knows where his remains are ! She was there when he was murdered ! Remember! Damn . The detectives didn't question her a second time? WTF! Come on she was that piece of shits alibi initially! When they 1st questioned her. She said, he was with her all night! Based on that statement. She was with him when he commited the murder . And therefore involved. So why wasn't she charged? Damn, she hindered and interfered when she lied to investigators from the begining of the investigation. her lie , bought the killer some extra time, giving him the oppurtinity to dispose of evidece that would have been far mire incriminating ! Evidence tgst may have shown exactly how he was murdered ! That type of evidence woukd have been the difference between manslaughter and 2nd degree murder! If dude killed him in self defense, .then surly he would have had some type of visible injuries (even light brusing) caused by the victim ? Look that bit€h , clearly hindered this investigation . So she should have been further questioned and charged. For interference! Based on this information alone. I'd say. The cops failed the victim and his mother. When they failed initially to be more thorough. They failed to bring charges against the girlfriend. Manslaughter was a joke!!! Those detectives and the prosecutor are a fu€kin disgrace
