If the house was worth 400 000 pounds, then he owed her 200 000, whether he sold it or not, and half of whatever his guitar collection was worth. In court, she would have been granted this - or at least 300 000 pounds, plus the value of cars, furniture etc etc, in addition to child support. As the parent of a sixteen-year-old, you should say, no. My daughter is now 20 and well-adjusted. We as parents loved her and set reasonable boundaries. We also had consequences - no spanking, that is just abuse but consequences if she seriously overstepped the rules. You are the parent of your child and you set the rules. She was too young to go away with a man of that age at 16. If my adult daughter was missing I would be at the police station every day until they did something. I would not be so passive. I feel dreadfully sorry for the father who wanted to believe the best in people. Gary should have got a minium of 30 years. What an utter schemer and loser.

@davidc383910 ай бұрын
I couldn't agree with you more. I spent my career as a social worker and the problem children were the ones who had been brought up with poor parenting. Children need to be loved and to have a structured life where there are clear boundaries. Of course, they break those boundaries and that is part of learning. At worst I put my daughter's toys or phone in the loft. I used to work with children who had been given no guidance or boundaries and they struggled in life. @lyndastarwriter85079 ай бұрын
Possibly. Consider the protestation of a 16 year old girl - WE have no idea how the dynamics played out in their otherwise peaceful household. Throw a man, love, and a teenager in the mix and the parents don't stand a chance - for they don't KNOW anything...and even if they did, teenagers, in general defer to complete strangers and questionable friends..
@aprilshowers7698 ай бұрын
At age 16 the only thing that waffles is the legal system. Here in the U.S. police really don't persue when someone that age wants to be with an adult. They bring them back to their parents a time or two and then throw their hand in the air with situation. The parents can file a lengthy court proceeding, then by then the child is almost 17. Older teenagers are tricky and not always a slam dunk in the courts.

The phrasing in the narration puts all the blame on Sharon (i.e.She made a terrible decision, etc.) Gary is the one who made the fatal decision- he decided to murder Sharon. Yes, Sharon put herself in harms way (unknowingly) but the blame should be on Gary!! It's offensive.
