The Calico Mountain expansion continues! In this episode, I model Calico Creek and its tall, dramatic waterfalls. Step by step techniques for finishing the stream bed, making waterfalls from acrylic sheet, mixing and pouring clear epoxy resin, and adding ripples, rapids and final details.
Thanks for watching, amigos!

Hello. One of my favorite rides at Knott's is the Calico Mine ride. When watching your video, there was one thing ye should of added. I remember and my grandfather would always mention the guy in one of the waterfall pools bathing in his long johns. I think ye should try and add that guy if ye can.

One thing that I've discovered with regard to sealing with the watered down superglue there, if you go in with some isopropyl acohol before the glue, it breaks the water tension of the glue and you get a better gluedown for it.

Another excellent video! I was hesitant to add “water” to my layout because too often it looks less than realistic! Using your techniques and materials i have decided to add a bustling creek under my trestles that I originally intended as a dry wash. Thanks Dave!

Enjoyed this segment very much, but a word of advice/caution. The dust mask provides absolutely no protection from the fumes from burning plastic. The only real protection comes from a respirator fitted with organic vapor cartridges.

As always fantastic work. A friendly video tip. If you noticed your colors in the video shift its because your white balance is set to auto. Set it to manual and hold a sheet of white paper in front of the lens. In the settings it should let you set the white off that paper. The colors in the video will then look consistent and true.

Now i know how to build my waterfall. Excellent video. By the way, one more detail is needed for the scene. Little Billy in his coveralls with his fishing pole sitting on the trestle beam above the water trying to catch the "great catfish!" Really enjoyed it.

Great video series Dave have learned a lot of new techniques to try.. Many thanks for sharing your skills,You make it look so easy… So inspiring I will have to give it a try… Can see the benefits of laser printers in scratch building our models but the down side is initial expense and getting to know the software…. Thanks again Keith.

Just a heads up that your Calico Mountain Expansion playlist is backwards. Anyone wanting to use it will start with part 12 and end with part 1.

Very true, but if I set it to start with the first episode then the most recently uploaded episode won't show up on the channel page. Not sure which is the best way to go.

@@ThunderMesaStudio As long as it is the way you want it, that's the right way. To me, any long time viewer wanting to watch the most recent video will simply watch that video. Someone wanting to watch all of them will want to watch the playlist from the beginning. But as I said, that is just my viewpoint. It is your channel, and you are doing a fine job on it. So....

Very nice. The waterfalls technique was new to me. I'm still not sold on the resin cast for the river, as the depth effect is most often hidden with color cast and modge poge ripples. Anyway, the zero depth gloss medium technique is at least less troublesome (no leak). I bought a bag of Poly-fil after reading of its use for making water foam, but it don't seem that common as technique, even if the results are excellent.

I feel like a fool for asking but is On30 O gauge trains on HO track or is it something else?
@ThunderMesaStudio
@ThunderMesaStudio 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, On30 is 1:48 scale trains running on track that is the same gauge as HO. Scale is the size of a model relative to the real thing, and gauge is a term for the distance between the rails. In O scale, the rails on HO gauge track are approximately 30" apart.

Also are you going to make a video of how you make a removable real coal load by any chance as I recently bought a O gauge Terrier and I would like to put real coal in the bunker but I want to mess it up
