Impressive Image resolution. Viewing Spirit's tongue, please explain the anatomy of their tongue. I see the barb but further back I think I see a separate hole from the throat (???) P.S. when looking at the eagle's head, I can faintly see a dinosaur.

Two rear facing Tongue Barbs help send food down the hatch. The hole in the tongue is the Glottis , the entrance to the Trachea. Glottis closes during swallowing. When mouth is closed the Glottis fits into the Choanal Slit in the roof of the mouth, which in turn connects to the Sinuses. This allows air to pass directly into the Trachea and then Lungs without entering the rest of the mouth.

Awww....what a fabulous eagle pair. They sure have a wonderful bonding. This is first season I've ever watched them. And I've never seen a pair with such a closeness. They work together as a great team for each other, their shared incubating & brooding (finally their offspring) and protecting their nest & territory from intruders. They make me feel so happy when they're resting together because they sure keep busy. And should I bring up "the sticks"? Haha! The sticks and their marital bliss fights over stick placement! 😂🥰

Spirit will not be banded. After dispersal (when she leaves her natal territory and departs on her journey) there will be no way to ID her.😊

Spirit will not be banded. FOBBV does not advocate banding. We believe the risks outweigh the benefits in our case. Considering that the population has quadrupled over the last decade, we expect less banding across the board.
