Bald Eagles are very large Birds with a wingspan of 7 + ft and a Female like Jackie weighs in @ 10--12 + Lbs. And that takes lots of Wing power headed up to the Nest. Also, probably fighting tough headwinds around the Nest needed to make Std " Headed into the Wind" Approach for Nest floor landing. Thanks for Posting Cali. S later gives J a Tail NIp and later engages in some Beak Dualing stuff with Her setting her up for proper mood response.

Methinks Jackie had some lunch before turning to the house cleaning. The pine cone must be frustrating 'cuz they can't get a good grip on it to get rid of it. I would imagine that they sense the chill in the air, the sun's angle, and feel an instinct to focus on family duties. I'm not sure they need more sticks, as they've already got a good barricade there, but the nest center needs airing and more fluff. Loved seeing them both stare when they heard the those squeaky chirps. I wonder what they're feeling when they share beaky bumps…? And now this morning… it looks like Jackie wanted to test the nest for a few minutes in the fog. Gotta love 'em!

Is hormonal time frame different in California. Some Florida eagles already have eggs. Nest is not ready either. They also mate privately I assume as I have yet to see these devoted love birds mate. Praying for babies for this exceptional two❤

Yes, this is not their mating tree. This is the normal time they mate every year, so all is well..

@CoExist64 good to hear, the mating is seen consistently on our florida cam..at least these 2 have privacy. Worried abt nest though, where is the fluff for soft bedding..just a mass of sticks..maybe a little early for the California love birds? We have some eggs in florida already...climate ,weather issues?

@ they’re just fine as is their nest. I’ve been watching them for four years, so it’s all ‘normal’ to me now. They have another tree that’s shown on FOBBV ‘live’, and occasionally we do see them mating. I’m just hoping we don’t have a year like last year, our eagles became ‘famous’ and… well, ugh! Lol

Same thing as a dog panting when it’s winded. We have no idea of how far they’ve flown or what they were doing before they landed on the nest, but panting like this is perfectly normal. TTE

Jackie 12 and Shadow 10. They have their own Wikipedia page! :) they’re not old. Bold eagles live up to 30. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for chicks this season.

As long as any female bird is Healthy, it can lay eggs. Some Albatross types on protected Pacific islands are in late 60's and still laying eggs in the wild. Some non releasable Condors @ L A Zoo are used for Breeding Condors, producing eggs into their 60's which hatch , grow up and are released in Big Sur California to join the wild flock there.
