California BIG Gold Nugget Metal Detecting GPZ7000 & Garrett Axiom | Prospecting With Nikko & Katie!

Katie & I took advantage of the full moon & hit California's Sierra Nevada Motherlode on an all night hunt for BIG gold nuggets. Armed with a ‪@Garrett_metaldetectors‬ Axiom + Pro-Pointer AT, Minelab GPZ7000, & Minelab Equinox 900, we battled mosquitos, tall grass, & ground that may as well been bedrock with iron EVERYWHERE. That didn't deter us. We went home with two nuggets, 0.13 grams & 18 grams.
This was my first time testing the GPZ7000 from Minelab. I am on a mission to find gold with every modern gold or multi-purpose detector (list as of 7/21/2024 below). I expected it would take a little longer with the GPZ7000! This is one HEAVY & awkward machine, but pretty nice performance for a 10 year old detector. I was using a 12" Nuggetfinder coil which helped with the weight & sensitivity to the small piece.
Katie is still learning the ropes & ran one of our Garret Axioms with the 11x7" DD-FC coil. She was digging small lead targets so it is only a matter of time before she hits that soft high tone of yellow heavy metal. After seeing me working this rock hard ground chasing a deep target for a while, she finally came over to take a break & decided to film. We already had a picker in the bag & were not expecting to find such an amazing piece of gold. 2024's biggest piece!
We had a Minelab Equinox 900 with the 6" coil on hand but never needed it. The Garrett Pro-Pointer AT, however, was a huge help once I got my big nugget out of the hole. What a night to remember.

I decided to etch the quartz away from this nugget & it turned out to be a gorgeous piece with a finished weight at 16.69g of buttery, shiny, rich California crystalized gold.
