GREAT day metal detecting the California Mother Lode! With my friend Dave from ‪@Goldbay‬ , Chase from ‪@Bigfootminingco‬ and all the rest of my new friends I made that day. We started detecting a small creek, and found some gold, but then moved up hill when the real fun happened as we pulled nugget after nugget out including some Huge Gold Nuggets. And some amazing specimen gold.

Hey man... I'm panning for mental health reasons. I don't sell my gold it's just finding it fills me with a life saving pride. I've found three pretty little flakes and it's the best feeling in the world. This channel has been amazing in inspiring me to go for it. If I would've known you were here, I'd have told you to go on the American River outside of Auburn. There's still plenty of gold to be found out there.. That or head up in the Bear River Watershed up by Rollins Reservoir, it's where they pulled the most gold and other minerals at with hydraulic mining.. In fact there's still a place up there with giant mounds of unwashed pay just sitting there.. and by giant I mean they cut a road through it and the pile is taller than a truck. Up in the mountains the river water never gets more than about 50-55F, because it's fed by snow melt all year long it never really warms up.

I found a great solution to clay is 5 gallon pail with some rocks and water in it. Swish it around aggressively and it breaks up pretty easy before panning.

Happy Birthday, Dan!! Thanks for taking us on your outing. The numerical readout on your machine may give a clue to the composition of the "chunk". Many metals become the color of the clay or other minerals existing with them. I've seen black gold and red gold. Aluminum has a mighty tone and a high number. Iron has a low number. Gold has usually a repeatable mid number. Wish you luck and Love your videos!

Seems that gold hasn't traveled very far? Makes one wonder where is the source? Happy Birthday Dan Hurd.

The source is all around. The geological theory is the gold came up into the Sierras in magma (along with other metals and minerals) filling in small cracks throughout the mountains. As the mountains erode over time the pieces fall down and mostly wash away in rivers. The gold is heavier and stays. In a place like where they are at, it probably didn't travel far in thousands of years and just got surrounded by dirt.

I tried using a metal detector out there once or twice. I didn't know how to distinguish from anything so tons of iron, zero gold. The coolest outcome was finding random river rocks that had metal ore hidden inside. I need to reevaluate this all. You found more in any given nugget than all the gold I found in 10 trips. I got hundreds of pieces, just altogether worth nothing.

Clay is a gold trap! Gold moves down until it traps and clay stops gold from moving down in soft unconsolidated soil! Always looking for the top of a clay base or some other strata capable of trapping gold!
