I remember your series on this highway years back when you started from the foothills & went all the way to the NV state line. After posting this, I'm glad to see that the series is still up. That said, I'm still amazed that they're still some snow at the top of Carson Pass in the middle of June. I'm starting to notice many of your recent video roads is of CA state highways going though the Sierra Nevada- which I think is a great idea. There's lots of great scenery on these highways going though the mountain range that hasn't yet been filmed by a Road Warrior. Here's to more such videos in the year ahead.

Somewhere up on Carson Pass, hidden behind some weeds, I found a rusty shield sign that designated this road as "Alt US 50". Have you ever heard of this? I have tried to research the history of this, and found nothing. I am old enough to recall when U.S. 50 still passed through Stockton. However, I have yet to find any old map that shows Hwy 88 as Alt 50.

I haven’t not heard of this and yes I’ve heard this road is indeed Alternate US-50. US-50 used to pass through my hometown of Tracy until 1964!

😅 On April 9, 1983 HWY 50 was closed because of a massive landslide. The road was closed for several weeks to clear the rubble. It was probably then that 88 was designated as ALT US 50. On a side note, the regular mail route down 50 was rerouted and for 6 weeks the Pony Express was activated to deliver mail by horseback to addresses on HWY 50 above the slide. A quote from a Pony Express history site… More than 60,000 letters were safely delivered during the six weeks that the Pony Express was activated. Of that amount, 40,000 pieces were sent by stamp collectors and postal history buffs and were stamped with a special commemorative marking.

In my 13 years of doing this I’ve never done videos at regular speed and never will.
