Hello, I just learned about your channel and am loving all these videos! I am curious, do you wash your herbs after harvesting them to remove bugs and dirt, etc? Or do you just go straight from harvesting to prepping?
@HeidiVillegas4 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! It actually depends on the herb, where it's grown, and how dusty it is. :-) Most times I'll rinse, but not always.

I plant them every year. What do you do when ready? Strain? Pour in shot glass? Put in mixed drink?
@HeidiVillegas8 ай бұрын
You can dose at about 1/2 teaspoon if you're a full sized "average" adult, then titrate up or down as needed. You can surely add this amount to a drink, too!

Hi Heidi, I live in AZ and Arizona poppies are wild in my area. Can they be tinctured as well as the CA poppy and get some of the same benefits?
@HeidiVillegas Жыл бұрын
Be sure to check the Latin name! If it's the same (and it could be), then yes. If not, do a little research to find out the name, then a bit more sleuthing!

Really nice and simple video! I heard that the plant has many anxiolytic effects and I wanted to know how I can really use that effect to help with my anxiety. More specifically, is the the tincture actually going to give me relief in that sense, or is it more of those natural remedies that don't really do anything?
@HeidiVillegas9 ай бұрын
Herbs do work. The trick is to find the herbs that work for your individual needs and body. And...to use high quality herbs and preparations. There are many things you can do to support healthy emotions and mood....from essential oils to herbs and I love combining them.

I’m a 66 yr old crusty white guy with lots of pain, hip, feet, back all the usual suspects, and Wild Lettuce tincture helps but I’ve experienced some tolerance to the Wild Lettuce tincture so I’m looking forward to trying the CP tincture! Do Apothecaries vary the CP resin do you know?
@clayapreston56418 ай бұрын
Carry the CP tinctures?
@HeidiVillegas8 ай бұрын
Yes, they will, but if you've been using wild lettuce for pain, the CP may not be strong enough. Do some research (and ask the doctor) about using kava. You can alternate between that and wild lettuce. Valerian root may also be helpful, and you can combine that herb with some passion flower or skullcap.

If I'm gathering from my own garden, sometimes I don't. But usually I'll give plants that are in a dusty area or that have a lot of insects a good rinse, then let them dry.
@jobar7136 Жыл бұрын
Hi what is the recommended dosage for adults and children?
@HeidiVillegas Жыл бұрын
As with all things herbal, this depends on the person. I have a complete dosing section in my course, Ditch the Drugstore to help with this. But in general, an average adult can start with 1/4 to 1/2 a teaspoon. I've always gone ahead and used three full droppers of an average dropper bottle, and this equates to roughly 1/2 teaspoon. Then you can titrate upwards if you need more. Larger people may need to start with a bit more. Just play around with it, and you'll find the exact right amount for you. :-)

Hi Heidi ! Thank you very much for your video. You said we can use vinegar for a poppy tincture : what kind of vinegar can we use ?

When I make acetums (vinegar extractions), my favorite kind of vinegar is raw apple cider vinegar, but you can use simple white vinegar too.

For any having trouble growing these or any other flower or herb!!! Super easy to do first time! Make sire it's good soil. 1 part dirt, 1 part organic matter (i.e leaves, dried grass, broken down sawdust etc) 1 part clay and half part sand. Boom yiu have soil for most all comers. Add in some red wriggler worms from your yard, these are the redish brown ones (not light brown) that are present when you lift a pot off the grass or walkway stone or any flatish heavy object. They are usually on the surface. These guys are COMPOST WORMS. Every other morning or even every morning go to your favorite big heavy pot and move it aside and grab a few worms and toss them into the pot. Do this at all stages of growing and the results are evident. As with most flowers they prefer heat and sun , as anything does. So best option if you aren't in a super sunny or warm area is to find yourself a clear plastic jug. You can go to the local grocery store and find one that's the general.size and shape of your pot and take it home. Move the juice, soda or whatever into a seperate container and cut out the bottom. Use the bottle or jug to press into the dirt to show the general outline of where it will be. Then sprinkle the seeds within that outline. Gently stir the very top of the soil around to mix in seeds. Spritz with good water till it's soaked through and place your jug and dig it in a bit. You can choose to put some holes in the side amd insert some kind of stakes to pin it down in the soil if you need to. Leave it be and water every 2-3 days depending on heat. Simply pour into the OPEN top and the water will usually travel down the insides of the jug and may collect about about an inch deep. Allow the water to settle and repeat again in another 2-3 days or when soil is dry. You'll have them sprouting and growing in no time :). FYI for any wondering this works on all plants that need warmth.

Hello, I just came across your channel & this is my first video. So far I am really liking it. Not a lot of fluff & too the point with lots of value. I have a question, you said California poppy may help with psychological driven bedwetting, do you know if is safe for animals? I have a rescued dog with deep rooted mental abuse & behaviors and she just stared doing this about 3 weeks ago almost ever night, after having her for 9+ months. Or maybe you could recommend another herb? Thank you
@HeidiVillegas Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words! As far as California poppy and dogs....I would avoid this herb, as it may be toxic to an extent in their systems. For the bedwetting, I would start with horsetail and cornsilk and see how this goes. The amount you use will depend on her weight. I hope this helps! Be sure to do some more research, though, so you're 100% comfortable with your choices.

Agree... Don't give up. The first time, I tried growing California Poppies mine didn't do so well. The Dirt, that I planted the Seeds in, was So Hard and they had a hard time growing. So I took a shovel n hand tilled the area and Mixed in Some Potting Soil , and some Compost. Nowww... They are growing. 😊 Also, don't let the dirt dry out. Try to keep moist while they are germinating and young seedlings. Hope this helps.

And... poppies need stratification to germinate successfully. That means they need to go through a winter cycle. I cheated and put a bunch of seeds in ice cube trays and filled the trays with water. After 2 weeks, I pulled the ice cubes out and dropped them in my garden beds and the poppies are now growing!
