I have been taking these seeds for pain and insomnia (tincture) for some days, as I was recommended them by a herbalist. They have very little effect. Compared with wild lettuce and Chamaenerion leaves there is really very little sedative effect.

I planted some of these is pots because I wanted to use them for medicine, so I wanted the soil to be clean. They did okay in the pots. They got to be about 2 feet tall, but I transplanted some sprouts into the ground for ornamental purposes. As you might expect, the one that actually took is thriving. It has many stems and blooms like crazy, but they're sprawled out on the ground like a vine with nothing to climb on. At the end where the flowers are, they seem to try to reach up. Have you ever seen this sort of behavior?

Poppy used in the production of opium and heroin is Papaver somniferum whereas Eschscholzia californica is the California poppy. Just an FYI.

Both California poppy and opium poppy are in the family Papaveraceae. As I mentioned in the video, California poppy is much less potent than the opium-producing variety and isn't a controlled substance. Doc homegrownherbalist.net/about-the-school/

I made a tea from this and honestly I felt just kind of poisoned by it. Was it sedating, yes, but not in a way that was pleasant, I felt groggy and headachey and while the initial taste was fresh and almost carroty, the aftertaste was really gross. No doubt something is up with this plant medicinally but maybe I'll just use it topically next time.
