Wouldn't it be more appropriate if you called it a "stream" instead of a "river?" The extent of expected rainfall is only showers, not torrential downpour as might be expected from a "river." Why do you want to scare people?

Rain is still rain. They’re using the term to describe high volume horizontal water vapor transport. Typically travels from the equatorial latitudes to the northeast over the pacific coast. Also formerly known as a pineapple express. This doesn’t necessarily lead to more intense rain, just more of it.

@a3rial533 More of it? OK Then why is that description being used now when there's so very little of it here in Sacramento. It's barely a drizzle. Not nearly a "river." It's misleading.

@@JasonRule-1 All that water has to go somewhere. It looks like areas to the north and west of Sacramento received a more significant amount of rainfall. Keep in mind it’s still hard to predict where all of this water ends up due to the mountains. I don’t see the term as a negative connotation as you might. In fact, apart from flooding in those locations it’s seemingly a good thing for the moment. If you come up with a better way to describe a “stream” of water vapor that evaporates in southern latitudes and flows to the northeast, be my guest.
