Its called Gungo Peas in Jamaica. There are many varieties, which blooms at various times. I find direct sowing works best for me in ground, and they may need wind protection because their limbs are weak.

Thank you for another great video. Silly me, I always pulled the spent plant out of the ground because it looked dead. Didn’t know it was perennial.

9:24 I loved this video. Thank you. You are very thorough, which I needed. I have 5 seeds. I've never grown it nor ever tasted it. I figure if I don't like them, the bees and I will enjoy the flowers and my garden pots will enjoy the nitrogen fixes.

You have to try curry peas and potatoes, and rice.

Thank you for sharing how to grow Pigeon Peas. In Puerto Rican cuisine and other cultural cuisine, the Pigeon Peas are cooked with yellow rice, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I noticed the seeds you start with look different than the peas produced. Will the harvested seeds germinate?

What month did your pigeon pea start to flower? Mine has been in the ground since April but it’s October now and still zero flowers. 😢
@CaliforniaGardening Жыл бұрын
The first year it flowered around October. Then from the second year onwards it flowers in Spring through late summer
@valchris1111 ай бұрын
Some varieties flower later , as late as January and depending on your region.

Thank you for a very informative video. I look forward to growing these in my perennial garden. Do the plants lose their leaves in the winter?
@CaliforniaGardening11 ай бұрын
No they don't, some bottom leaves do get yellow, which is normal, but it's not as bad as a deciduous plant. Hope that helps!

Thanks for a quick response. I’ve already ordered my seeds. I really appreciate your videos. It’s good to see posts about growing in our SoCal climate. All the best.
