I'd like to start some in my backyard. We like cooking them in a rice dish with spices. We are in Broward County. Hope ours turn out as bountiful!

Great vid. I was under the impression raw legumes could be detrimental for chickens, an enzyme that was bad for their gut system or so. Are pigeon peas an exception then? That'd be awesome to help with my girls protein intake

Great point! Not sure though. If it hurt them it sure didn't show. They LOVE them, so seems okay. I notice their are certain plants they are repelled by, wonder if they know what is good for them? Please check out my new music channel Jedi Jingle Maker and subscribe. I am working to reach 100 subscribers. All the music is made by me, new tracks every week, here was a recent release kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipLYo42hfsacb7c

Are they difficult to shell?
@EatYourBackyard2 жыл бұрын
They are easy to shell when ripe. In fact I love them when they are a bit past ripe, they start to dehydrate, get a little chewy and more nutty tasting. Kim, you gotta get some of those peas in your life, hehe. I am a nut about Pigeon Peas, so easy to grow and useful. Please also check out and sub if you like my new music channel kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmq3pIKpbayKj68

Would they grow in North Carolina
@EatYourBackyard2 жыл бұрын
Great question, Most varieties are not frost tolerant, although there are some newer varieties that supposedly can handle a bit of frost. If you get freezing winters you can grow them as an annual crop. Let's get growing! Also, please check out my new music channel and subscribe (thanks) kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZq6aKmBgtZlbq8
