This video is all about natural swimming pools aka recreation ponds. We have noticed a huge increase in requests from our clients to build "natural swimming pools" or "recreation ponds".
These are a great alternative to traditional chlorinated pools or salt water pools. In our natural pools, we use a biological filtration system paired with a skimmer but on a much larger scale. This is called a Wetland Filter and an Intake Bay when building a larger eco system. We use the Aquascape Inc. method and equipment to build all of our water features.
In addition to the biological filtration system, we added U.V. (ultraviolet) light sterilizers, an automatic dosing system (for water treatments & natural beneficial bacteria) and a IonGen G2 filtration add-on. These boost the filtration and clarity of the water so swimming in a natural pool feels refreshing and clean.

Great vid. I was wondering though, it seems the basis of a lot of these natural pools is somewhat ironically synthetic liners. There may be some concern about leaching overtime and PCBs etc. I noted the host stated that concrete cracks and doesn't last as long. I would like to know if there is a way to actually create a natural pond with a natural "liner." Like how does nature do it? It might be more expensive I don't know but what is the answer if anyone knows please comment. thanks

Another great job guys. Can't wait to see the revisit on this one. Beautiful. I have a question though about all the electrical equipment and lighting. How do you handle bonding? With above ground pools, you have the frame and decking. With inground pools you have the rebar in the walls and surrounding flatwork. Do you add copper wire around the perimeter and bond everything together to eliminate the possibility of some completing a circuit if there is a fault with a pump or a light?
@chadmorrill1850
@chadmorrill1850 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! All the lights we use are low voltage and the external pumps are grounded, plugged into a GFCI 110 outlet

Hello, very nice ponds, can you explain how to do a wet land biofilter
@CaliforniaWaterscapes
@CaliforniaWaterscapes 2 жыл бұрын
A biological filer is a natural filter opposed to using chemicals to kill toxins, it uses beneficial bacteria (good bacteria) to break down harmful toxins in the water. It's natural method of filtering out toxins from the water. It essentially gives a home to good bacteria.... A WETLAND biofilter, also called a "BOG FILTER"... it's a shallow water area filled with plants that doubles as a "biological filter". The water is pumped through the bottom and rises up through the filter "media" (material such as lava rock that good bacteria make a home in) then flows back into the pond, normally with a waterfall for aesthetics as well as to add oxygen.

How do you keep Plants in the pond alive? As they are isolated from the ground, where do they get the nutrients from?
@CaliforniaWaterscapes
@CaliforniaWaterscapes 8 ай бұрын
We create "planter pockets" between the rocks for the plants to grow and consume nutrients. It also contains the plant, gravel and soil from spreading throughout the pond. Keeps the edging looking natural too Thanks for watching!

How do you repair broken/punctured liner?
@CaliforniaWaterscapes
@CaliforniaWaterscapes 3 жыл бұрын
You can patch it! Use a EPDM liner patch kit. However, if its a large/long puncture / rip, you can seam a new piece of liner on. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKXLo6eIr8qjobs

Is it true that without fish, the nutrient content in the pond would be lower? If so, for people that would prefer a clearer water, would not adding fish to the natural pool result in even clearer water? Cheers.
@CaliforniaWaterscapes
@CaliforniaWaterscapes 8 ай бұрын
Great question! I've noticed over the years that the ponds with the right balance of fish are always clearer then the ones without. Koi are the best. They're carp, so bottom feeders, this help get debris off the bottom and into the skimmer. Koi are also low maintenance, inexpensive and incredibly smart!
