I love natural pools and most of them come in natural settings like they have always been there, with big rocks and falls. However, I am also a fan of clean lines, aesthetics, etc. I love that there IS an option for a natural swimming pool to look sleek and modern too. Thank you!

I work on a chemical plant and it doesn't take as long as you'd think for pipes to freeze up, especially if they aren't lagged., I would definitely recommend some insulation for around the pipes if you don't have any. Last thing you want is for all your pipes to burst. This is in the UK by the way so similar winters to yourself, with colder temperatures not quite reaching the -20s that you were talking about.

Probably already mentioned but it maybe worth looking in to a Bubble pump, you'd need to increase the size of you feed pipes to 100mm (4") but it would be far more efficient at around only 70watts so could easily be run 24/7 on a small solar all year round :) great Job by the way as the other design I saw else where used a lot more plastic and a lot more complex for no reason. thanks for the effort.
@cros13 Жыл бұрын
Bubble pump would not be able to maintain the required flow rate for this system. Likely need a larger filtration area to use that.

I am building Bed & Bisquit & Labrador Breeding in Pattaya, Thailand. This almost exact plan I will incorporate next to the kennels basically for the dogs. Mine will be a swim spa with a Hayward Eco pump that can vary from very slow current for the regeneration zone to I think 3hp that I can redirect to the 6 jets at one end pushing the water at about 2km/hr with a vanishing edge falling into a 3m x3m shallow puppy pool . Great job but I still wonder why the well is necessary. Just the return thru the concrete on the bottom and connect to the network of corrugated pipes below the larger gravel? The idea is to wear the dogs out playing and swimming all day so as to have chill evenings.

Hey, that's a great video ! Regarding the tall plants that didn't thrive due to (fortunate) low phosphate levels, I could only recommend you to keep puttin a few of them every year, so that you'll know if your phosphate levels rise, because they'll start to do really well and warn you that way :)
@DocLindgaard3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That is a great idea. The iris plant is quite cheap, so it would not cost much to put a few in each year.
@TDREXrx93 жыл бұрын
yeah I was thinking a deficiency to but with it being a new built Iris like some silt it he used mostly gravel there may not be the proper for the roots you could try to add silt to the filter area or just give it time to naturally built up. As for adding Phosphate try adding a bird feeder near by all the poop will really boost those levels.
@torbenp478753 жыл бұрын
Amazing pool and very informative video. Did you ever consider using simpler airlift based pumps for this pool? I wonder if that would work.
@DocLindgaard3 жыл бұрын
Hi Torben. Yes we did give it a thought, but with the system we build, we pushed the limit for filtration vs. swimming area ration, so I wanted to be sure that I could turn up the flow if it was needed. But if you build more like a natural pond with af 50% filtration area vs. 50% swimming area I think you might do fine with the airlift system.

Cooles Projekt. Sauber gemacht.

Thank you for informative video. I am designing now my new organic pool after successfully having one for 8 years here in Thailand. Like you I used concrete as base in total (300 m2) …. Just wondering why you used liner? I didn’t and had no leak…..the bottom of swimming part (beach entry) was sandwashed and rest left natural. Bit slippery due to some “stuff” stick to bottom but weekly brushing kept it ok…….for next one design is better to use vacuum robot. So just, back to question why you used liner…..just out of precaution, color, or did you really had concerns the concrete leaking?

Great job! I really appreciate the detailed description and wish I had seen your video before I started my own build. I’m using a gravel and planted regeneration zone with airlift pumps which is separate from the swim area. This spills into a traditional style pool with an infinity edge, then flows into four ibc 275 gallon containers with filter media providing more surface area for beneficial bacteria. Then pumped back to then ‘pond’ area. Essentially two filter systems/ one on air pumps and the other mechanical. Fairly simple without uv for now. 95% done and regeneration zone is full of water and plants…hoping it all works with all the amount of time and money spent🤞🏼Here in Santa Barbara, California- born and raised here but visit Denmark often to visit cousins (parents moved here from Copenhagen). Wonderful country and people and will be there this summer 🇩🇰 thanks again! One question- I have frogs moving in. Would you remove eggs and tadpoles? Like the idea of a balanced eco system moving in and finding balance but concerned about nutrients…
@DocLindgaard3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jens. Thanks for your comments. Yes, we do get a few frogs and salamanders in the regen area. But I see them as a natural part of an organic pool and do not remove them 🙂 Best of luck with your project in California.

Very nice and interesting project, thank you very much for sharing it I also have a biological pool and know how challenging (and rewarding) it can be. I am quite interested by your "Philips" system, could you please give some more information about it ? Exact name, where to buy it, etc ? Regarding your pump, I think it will be quite expensive in terms of power consumption to use a pool pump all year through. Pool pumps are not designed to be operated 24/24 all year so I would recommend to buy a pool pump such as Oase or Aquaforte. If you choose the right one you will divide by 10 your electricity consumption. But check carefully the pump spec (water column). I also think you may reconsider your flow, 1 time the pool volume per 24h is usually not sufficient, I think 1 time per 4 hours is the minimum, and all of it on UV during the hot season. But maybe via a separate circuit if you want to maintain your filter flow. Regarding green water and alguae, I think the power of UV is not sufficient. It is recommended to have about 2W per m3 so if your pool is 100m3 that is 200W instead of your 75W. This could be put on a separate water circuit. Regarding the pool robot, I was also somewhat disappointed by my previous Tiger Shark. I have had better results with my new Maytronic T35. I also recommend the oase Pondovac 5 as a great vacuum cleaner. Just my 2 cents, congratulations again.
