It’s because you can express more of a vocal like sound on the fretless. And you have a phenomenal ear to create the voicings you do. It’s mostly because of your technique on fretless. Making it like a cello…in a sense…with a nice accompaniment on piano and guitar. It’s because of your work that you are able to create this beautiful rendition of one of the best “pop” 🤢 songs in the last 50 years. It’s not pop. “Rock” the RHCP are a category of their own with John Frusciante. And we can thank Hillel Slovak for The majority of the style John played in the 80s. RIP Hillel ❤ every member of the group are fantastic musicians. I don’t care what ppl say about Anthony Keidis’ tone. He’s one of the greatest poets of the 20th and 21st centuries. I haven’t listened to the RHCP in 7 + years bc stadium Arcadium and the albums, sans One Hot minute, are a plethora of interesting song arrangements, much better than say the Beatles or Rolling Stones. But that’s because these guys studied the Beatles writing in depth(which was usually truly great) and made even better songs bc they also studied Hendrix and a ton of different musicians going back to miles Davis and further. So yea, good choice and great arrangement, even better execution of the vocal parts ❤❤
