For the past 4 years i have been doing only calisthenics. Truth is i started with no knowledge at all and had to learn everything the hard way which lead to a slower progress in my strenght and physique. Also nutrition and consistency were 2 big points i was lacking. Anyway, at the end of the last year i moved to a new city because i started going to college and decided to get a gym membership for the first time because i thought i could be more consistent that way. I first started training with calisthenics only, kind of staying in my comfort zone, but slowly integrated weightlifting into my routine as well. I cannot say what an huge impact that has had since the moment i started training both. I discovered i actually have many weak points, especially in the smaller muscle groups such as the biceps, triceps and shoulders because in the compound exercises the big muscles usually take over. After i figured this out i started training them individually with weights and not only that i gained more muscle, but i also noticed better progress in my bodyweight exercises and calisthenics skills. I am very satisfied with the changes i have made and im looking forward to progress more using both bodyweight and freeweight training in order to achieve the best possible results!

One thing you didn't mention: closed-chain vs open-chain exercises, specifically for beginners. If you are just starting out, it is better to use bodyweight exercises as it will help you learn how to control your body and has a much lower risk of injury (it is much harder to injure yourself doing closed-chain exercises than it is open-chain). Once your relative strength gets too strong for your bodyweight, time to "spice things up".

The greatest advantage to the hybrid method is that Weights are the best way to bridge the gap between progressions.

I always do weights first such a squat, deadlifts, bench press and over head press, then do body weights/callisthenics afterwards. Also throw in some weights for isolation. That’s how I mix both styles of training 💪🏾

You can make a hybrid workout video series that's basically something like this Top five weighted exercises to help you achieve full planche. Unlock the front lever faster using weight training. Basically videos about what traditional gym exercises will help people get to the classic awesome calisthenics moves such as handstand push-ups front lever planche muscle up. For example recently I've been doing a lot of overhead press because I want to do handstand push-ups. And lots of straight arm pull-downs for front lever

Nice video i agree with your points and i also do a hybrid workout. But PLEASE fix your pushup execution if you always do them like in 4:26 . Please don't let your head hang down that much and try to touch the ground with your chest. In general try to icrease your range of motion more.

Calisthenics or Weigth Lifting, what is better to get really Strong and gain Real Strength?
@davepazz5802 жыл бұрын
It depends what you mean by "really strong" and "real strength"... Either one will make you really strong, but how you want to *express* that strength determines which one you should choose...

I am thinking of my free weights training will decrease my bodyweight progress. I have 2 years of calisthenics experience, already can do full planche, but started to go to gym like a month ago, and noticed that now I am doing the planche harder than I WAS doing. So should I continue both, or just pick calisthenics over weights.

What kind of split should it be? For my weightlifting routine i add pullups and dips, i wouldnt cosider it a bodyweight workout tho. I want to look like frank zane and do all kind of cool bodyweight movements and have insane strengh at all aspects. How to get optimal recovery doing this and the smartest split to do both?
@TheHabibOfMankind2 жыл бұрын
Either full body or upper lower. Full body is optimal imo as it build things like general fitness and work capacity and gets you used to volume training. Also use concurrent periodisation it’s a cheat code fr

Are there any pushups variation for bigger biceps? 💪
@ghosttoast63172 жыл бұрын
Why would you try to target biceps, a muscle group predominantly used in pulling motions, with pushing exercises? You could try RTO push ups, but it would be far better to do chin ups, rows, curls to target biceps.

biceps require a pulling motion under heavy resistance to build hypertrophy, try weighted chin ups or a progression of australian chin ups or just good ole dumbbell curls
@manuelthenics2 жыл бұрын
@@calicokahlahdah3709 You should start off with Australian rows and work your way towards to eccentric pull ups. You may have to use lat pull downs in order to strengthen the muscles involved in a pull up if you have access to a gym. If not, you can purchase some resistance bands and do banded pull downs.

@@rover5058 Calisthenics alone can get you aesthetic benefits though. Unless you want to maximise your muscle mass and strength, then yes weight lifting is a must but being aesthetic, strong and fit can be done with calisthenics alone.

If you’re a beginner lifter, the only way to grow is through heavy compound lifts. Which means you have to combine barbell training with body weight training. For example the only compound lifts for the biceps are chin ups, every other compound exercise can be done with barbells, except biceps. This is way you shouldn’t chose between free weights or body weight
