Negatives are actually what helped me do my first pull-up. I would just try to stay as high as I could, and at one point I didn’t move. Then one fateful day while trying to keep myself as high as possible I found myself getting pulled upwards. It was awesome and fueled me to go farther. Still beginner level with calisthenics, but I hope I can get stronger! Thanks everyone!

@@kostapal654 I’ve done a lot less calisthenics and put on some weight sense then. I just never took my nutrition seriously or ever figured out some kind of schedule I could stick to. Since college started though, I’ve been able to focus on my calorie intake and hit protein goals (part of my eating issues is due to my family). I’ve also been going to the gym and where I had lost my ability to do a pull-up, I can now do one regular grip & two reverse grip pull-ups. Currently I’m trying to focus on being a good athlete, so I’m trying to do mobility training and work on getting to a good competition size(I’ve been a grappler).

Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. And terrorists (puppets of the Antichrist) who misinterpret verses, out of ignorance and political motivations, and take them out of historical context (just like radical atheists do by the way), don't help either. Thank you very much for your time. Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them). Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI). Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy. Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI). Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad). Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning! Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures. Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement. It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them. (19-22 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).. Salam (Peace) --------

Check out Athlean-X as well if you haven't already. I really hope everyone truly understand and appreciate the value of this video and the whole thenx channel. I'm at such a low point in my life right now, starting calisthenics is one of the last few things that actually motivates me and i am beyond grateful for such high quality and well presented instructions by Chris & thenx team. I can't even do one single pull-up YET so honestly all this thenx athletes greatness is a tiny bit overwhelming sometimes when i know im still struggling with australian pull ups..... so this video came in perfect, perfect timing: i absolutely loved these advices, incredibly valuable for a beginner like me and also this sentence hit me hard: "you gotta do a lot of negative reps to eventually achieve the positive" - rather we're thinkin about calisthenics goals or any other big dream we have, that sentence is accurate AS FUCK - pardon my french - as im going through such a negative time right now. Rather it's a negative muscle up or a negative month of june 2018, it's all part of the journey on our way to greatness and sorry for this long ass comment, i know someone else out there will benefit from this as well. Thank you so much Chris Heria & team. Greetings from Switzerland

This is something a lot of sports classes neglect completely, for the sake of the participants enjoyment, they will progress to intermediate to advanced way to fast, because they want it to be fun and exciting for people. But when you look at all the pro athletes, like ballet dancers, they will do hundreds of repetitions before training of the same boring easy looking basic movements. I have seen this in my pole class, where people are in advanced classes and everything they do looks super sloppy and uninspiring. This is why I am so happy to have discovered Chris and other athletes on youtube, they bring you back to the basics. After implementing what he said in his videos I made more progress in a week than in the last two months.

Excellent video, Chris. I’m pushing 50 and I’m close to being in the best shape of my life. Currently doing a very regimented calisthenics routine to go along with jogging 20 miles a week. Diet is on point right now. Thanks

That's because calisthenics trains your relative strength, so you wanna have very low fat to be lighter and achieve some exercises faster. And yeah, being lean makes you look good without shirt.

The overgrip is something that I recently discovered by myself, helped tremendously. Glad it is not just me as I was not sure if this is recommended. My biggest problems is knowing how much to rest for good recovery. I often overdo my workout and next few days just feel very weak. Hope I find a video on that in this channel.

It is sooo good to see that you are talking about the basics, the perfection, and you do not want to fool your watchers that you can do everything without any dificulties. During the push-ups, the hangs, and mostly at the end, during the hefestos, we can see that you get more or less to your limits, and you do not want to mask your efforts. I think this is really respectable, and this gives me much power for me. Thank you!

At this point i lost 12kg weight (from 100kg to 88) and gained some muscles in the gym. Now i think its time to decide wich direction i want to choose.. just training for the muscles seems boring. Calisthenics is the thing that looks so amazing, i am 27 now..this will be a long hard way and i am looking forward to it

1. Sticking to the basics: Master your basics (push ups, pull ups, dips, squats). Incorpore high repetitions. 2. Perfect form: Put the effort to do the exercice as perfect as possible. Master the mouvements, get gud at the technique. Quality over quantity. 3. Grip strength: Having a strong grip automatically increase your endurance, your strength, and the number of reps you can achieve. 4. Negatives: Doing the negative of an exercice will lead you to master the positive. 5. Consistency/Having a goal: You have to consistently try to improve on what you're working on. Create milestones. Small constant goals help you progress.

I just started calisthenics, currently can do just about 40 pushups in a row before I can’t do any more, can do like 2 pull ups good form barely, and dips maybe like 8-9. I’m going to focus on getting the pushups up to 100, keeping form perfect, focus of getting to 10 pull ups, and 25 dips. Also starting to do wall handstands I’ve been practicing every day 15 minutes just to get my body used to being upside down because it’s so uncomfortable to be upside down for more than 10 seconds so I gotta condition myself in that regard. Another goal is to be able to hold a hollow hold for 20 seconds and an L-sit for 10 seconds. But yeah I’ll focus on building a strong foundation, stretching everyday mainly hamstrings shoulders and wrists, and only once I reach those goals I mentioned earlier and I am decently flexible (can touch hands fully on ground with straight legs) then I’ll move on to more intermediate skills
