Great suggestions! I also recommend a yoga mat, if you're living in a space with hardwood/laminate - makes ground work a lot more enjoyable and less of a pain in the back! Another suggestion are push-up bars. Find sturdy ones with a comfortable grip that allow you to extend your reps for more of a stretch in the pecs.

Just got a set of rings and in my opinion, they are the best bang for you buck piece of equipment you can get. You can do all the basics on them (pull ups, dips, push ups, rows) and they are also useful for a lot of other things. I even hang some resistance bands from them and they are great for tricep pushdowns.

I didn't buy most of these, but that was because I didn't see this video or know of the channel at the time. I started buying home gym equipment in Jan, for the winter months when I didn't have time or the desire to go out again in the freezing cold. I did buy variations, a dip station etc. and free weights and I have found them more challenging than using machines at the gym, for all the obvious reasons. Love the channel and the advice. No one needs a gym now, or ever, imo.

A door jamb is the vertical section of a door frame, which acts as a support for the remainder of the frame, as well as the door itself. Each frame has two jambs. The hinge jamb is the side where the hinges are installed, and the strike jamb is the side where the locking mechanism latches into the strike. The jambs are also used to mount the frame to the surrounding wall. The horizontal member that connects the two jambs is called the head. www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-door-jamb.htm#didyouknowout

I know I am late to the party - just found the channel. You said you don't recommend the bosu ball, but I would like to make a recommendation for it. They are great for stability, specifically squats if you flip it over and stand on the flat side. It was a recommended exercise by a physical therapist when I had severe knee pain (won't bore people with the details). The balancing adds a nice challenge to body weight squats as well, teaching even pressure between each leg as well as heel to toe. Love the videos! Keep up the good work and great content!

Do you have any thoughts on using gloves to help with grip and prevent callouses and pain?
@MinusTheGym3 жыл бұрын
Tom C yes, I personally recommend gloves, specifically for those who’ll be spending an hour or more a day on bars at a calisthenics park. It might not be the same if you’re just using home equipment because that will often have foam grips, but when I was going “all in” on outdoor equipment I had horrible calluses and they’d often tear and create painful wounds. Wearing a nice pair of workout gloves with the finger tips open was perfect for me to get around that.

What if I have horrible wrists damage? What do you recommend? I've had multiple surgeries and that push-up position is impossible for me to achieve. I'm fat and a heart attack surviver with 4 stent implants. I have two little kids I'd like to see graduate grad, middle and high school at least... although college and a wedding would be great to see too. Anyways please help. I respect and believe what you are preaching brother.
@MinusTheGym5 жыл бұрын
SG483 this probably isn't the answer you're expecting from me, but I really do want to help. Since you've had serious heart problems and you're clearly concerned with your longevity and want to see your kids grow up, I HIGHLY recommend the book Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn Jr., MD. I got my copy on amazon: amzn.to/2PWfYOW . In that book, Esselstyn explains a diet he uses in his practice that has been proven to reverse heart disease. He's shown this with before/after angiograms, plus the sheer number of patients he's worked with that have seen success are a good testimony to the diet as well. They were basically sent home to die by their cardiologists, but then were deferred to Esselstyn and he was able to keep them alive and well for DECADES using the diet he recommends. My recommendation to you is to get that book and read it cover to cover. The information it contains is astounding. You'll learn that exercise comes second to proper nutrition, especially once chronic disease has set in. Implement the diet it teaches because it will help you lose weight while truly restoring your cardiovascular health. It will help you be truly healthy (internally) instead of relying on surgeries and pills. Light exercise like daily walking is a good thing during the process, but work with your doctor to make sure you have his/her blessing. As your cardiovascular health improves, you can start increasing the intensity of your exercise with the calisthenics exercises I show on my channel. My beginner routine would be a good start at that point, but start off with the 1st progression of each exercise and rest as needed between exercises. Please, do NOT start my beginner routine if you don't read the book I recommend first. Proper nutrition for your cardiovascular system is #1 priority before exercise. The idea is: restore your health with nutrition, then amplify that good health with exercise later. Regarding the wrists, if you still have pain after losing weight, which it sounds like you might due to all the surgeries, you can try using push-up grips or parallettes. The neutral grip puts a lot less strain on the wrist in comparison to a prone grip (palms flat on the floor). Best of luck to you.
@SG4835 жыл бұрын

@MinusTheGym5 жыл бұрын
Shay Daylami I actually really like the "two very tall parallettes" version of dip bars. I'm contemplating getting the Frank Medrano signature Lebert Equalizers (amzn.to/2EiMPFO). You can do additional exercises on them, like straight bar dips. The reason why I have and recommend the Ultimate Body Press is because it's easily collapsible. Hey man I've started calisthenics a push pull legs routine. I'm working on 3 sets of 8-12 reps can't even perform 8 reps yet not even in the first set. I'm also reaching failure without becoming really sore. Like I don't feel sore right after doing my push workout even though I reach failure am I doing something wrong?
@MinusTheGym5 жыл бұрын
Ichigo48 Rukirenji soreness actually doesn't happen right after doing your workout. After a really good workout, something that pushes you over your limits, you'll become sore the following day. This is called DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness). So give it a day and see if any soreness kicks in. Also, don't be too concerned with how sore you get, focus more on building strength. You said you can't perform 8 reps yet. Well, let's say you get 6 reps on dips today. Then next time you do a push workout, try to get 7 or 8 dips (increase the max reps). As long as your strength goes up, you're making progress. And possibly increase the sets too. If 3 doesn't seem to cut it for you, you might need 4 or 5 sets per exercise. I personally find 4 to be optimal for me. And when learning new skills I'll often do 5 or 6 sets on a single progression.

Do you recommend on going to a gymnastics gym or a calisthenics park? Cuz I don’t know whether there is one near me and I don’t know if I really want to train with people until I’m more advanced .. Can you get more than intermediate at home?
@MinusTheGym5 жыл бұрын
Keg Wg you don't need to go to a calisthenics park or gymnasium. I mean, that's awesome if you can, but it's not necessary. You can learn whatever you want at home. There's no limit. For example, I wanted to learn the bar muscle up but I didn't have a bar I could get above and no parks close to my home, so I built my own in-ground pull up bar in my backyard (cemented into the ground). Where there's a will, there's a way. You can learn handstand, handstand pushups, one arm handstand, back bridge, elbow lever, L-sit, V-sit, manna, planche... all those kills require no equipment. So while gyms/parks are nice, they're not necessary.
