I'm learning calisthenics because I want to get stronger by improving my control over my body. For whatever primal reason, I find handstand pushups and muscles ups a bajillion times more impressive than lifting heavy metal.

Majin Emsi same here 😁 They're WAY more impressive. The instant you see someone do a handstand push up or human flag, you know they trained *hard* for it. There's no "fake it til you make it" with these skills.

Technically.. having muscle is bad, because your body has to work more to maintain them, so if you want to talk about the most efficient people and how they would look like, in my opinion it would be long distance runners because not only do they have little muscle for their body to support, they have an extremely strong cardiovascular system that will carry into senior years
@budani1473
@budani1473 5 жыл бұрын
@@haroldhaynes4002 you need to workout and develop muscles so they dont bresk down as you age.. things like grip strength and core strength will last a lifetime and prevent many issues that come with old age. It is not difficult to maintain muscles body builders loose mass because they dont eat crazy amounts but there muscles still exist as long as they continue to stay active you dont have to lift weight even bar work like calethnics is fine and enough stimulus to maintain muscles besides eating a balanced nutrition

I really appreciate ur channel, I'm 25, been doing calisthenics for 8 months now, lost a ton of weight and made great progress, but the truth is I am still a beginner! People should know that every exercise has its own little secrets that sometimes take weeks of trying to discover (trust me you can screw up even a body-row, if your out there on your own), and require rewatching videos multiple times. More often then not, I think im doing an Exercise right, I fail, and upon rewatching the videos, I discover I performed pretty poorly. You simply cant progress to a full L-sit hold in a couple of weeks, taking mistakes and misinterpretation into account. the basics can not be studied enough! so please keep making "entry Level" videos!

@@DarkChess01 yes, beginner gains it's called. When I started I could do 1 dip, 0 pullups, 6 pushups. After 3 months I could do 8 dips, 4 pullups and 8 pushups. Now it's slower. I'm around 12 dips, 8 pullups & 15 pushups but I train more often but not really since my boy wants to be a football player has team exams in a month and decided to come with me train in the mornings so I train him and do few pullups or just play with the bar from time to time when he does some excercise for few minutes. It's fun though spend time with your kid so I guess in a month I will get back to regular training.

I was drawn to your channel initially as a way to develop muscle mass. I am hoping to build muscle mass as a way of putting money in the bank for when that time comes when I start to lose mass due to aging. As I approach retirement (just turned 63) I want to have the strength to do work on my house and land. Your willingness to have lessons that really are for beginners is very appealing. I like, your willingness to talk about exercises you had difficulty mastering. That is motivating for me. If I have trouble learning something new I will know that this just part of the routine.

I'm pursuing calisthenics for a bunch of reasons. 1) To open up what I believe is possible 2) To gain strength, endurance and flexibility 3) To up my martial arts game significantly 4) To combine with other things that I work on, such as contact juggling, dance and many others But the most important is to train my mind, body and spirit to work together. When I do standing meditation (holding the tree or holding the beach ball)...I train my breath; which allows me to relax most of my body and only tense the muscles required to hold the position. I feel that breath needs to be focused on a lot more in gymnastics and parkour. It holds a lot of power. Yoga teaches this; and therefore, learning to breathe in various position or as you are going THROUGH various positions in Yoga, could be very beneficial to what you are showing here.

I am skeptical of the fitness gym craze populated by Lycra-clad youngsters offering package advice to vain or guilty-minded hopefuls whose most fervent ambition is to be noticed. @ewilko7423

Dave Raspberry When my muscles get sore I rest them as long as I need till they recover. While they are repairing just target other muscles and do exercises that don’t impact your resting muscles. I had so much planned but I’m a beginner and as soon as I did that first day I knew my plan was too much. Progression is best way to tackle it. You will get there slowly but if you expect too much you will only disappoint and de motivate yourself from doing any of it. Hope this helps at all. I’m only a beginner no professional advice but just my own take seeing as you’ve got no response yet.

Trust me I have done it and everybody loves watching me for a few hours: some people ask me "how could you not even exhaust without taking a day off" then I was like nah it's nothing I used to crazy than this so it's great don't take a rest unless you got injury that's the time to day off. Peace!❤️

I want to get stronger and master my own body and be able to do anything. without restrictions of not being strong enough or agile enough. I agree with most of all who commented that it's way more impressive and badass to do muscle ups and hand stand push ups and body weight mastery exercises than pumping iron. I'm going to be 51 this year and that is one of my goals to get those exercises right. Thanks for the great video it helps a bunch.

Hello there ! Thanks for the beginner guide. I'm a 35yo guy and i want to have control over my body so i can move it in the way i want whenever i want. My first step was to lose weight : lost 16Kg while doing cardio training and controling my food calories and macronutriments in 4 months. Now i want to grow muscle, control and flexibility. I guess i will follow your beginner guide routine. What do you think about beginner routine 3-4 times a week and during the "rest" day working on frog ?
@MinusTheGym
@MinusTheGym 5 жыл бұрын
Romain Gama congrats on losing the 16Kg! That's awesome :) Yes, the beginner routine will help with your goals. And your plan is perfect. Do the circuits from my beginner routine video 3x a week for starters (you can increase the frequency to 4x if you want) and work on frog on the active rest days. On those days, aside from skills, try to get out and move too. Go for a walk, ride a bike, etc.

I'm a 54 yr old male from the UK in chronic pain with degenerative discs in my neck and lower back from sports/motor cycle injuries. I'm trying to mobilise and repair my spine with movement and strength exercises using yoga, calisthenics and a chiropractor. I'm slowly, very slowly experiencing less pain and getting stronger but it's going to be a long long process! These videos are exactly what I need to give me a chance of eventually being pain free!😆 keep up the great work sir.

I found out that i had better results with my physique when i was doing martial arts with all of the calisthenics we did then i did with lifting heavy weights, my body just responded better to calisthenics, I am just now familiar with all of the exercises, its been a long time, so I appreciate your channel. Thank you.

I tried calisthenics a couple of years ago and, unfortunately, used horrible form on pull-ups and dips, eventually partially tearing my bicep and getting tendonitis. Finally going back to it and being much more conscientious about warming up and good form.

Just started to train on Calisthenics, I tried many different things before but all of them miss an important aspect: they do not lead to anything useful. I get bored doing weight lift with no real improvement while I think Calisthenics is fascinating with the promise to improve your skills and your strength. A strong, well built body is just a consequence of what you are really doing: challenge yourself to move and control you body. Love this idea...it flickers me up!

I'm pursuing calisthenics for the skills first, then strength and fat loss. I am 62 and recently retired and want to surprise my family for my 65th birthday and want to do 20 pull ups, 100 sit ups, the L sit transition to handstand press ups. I've got 3 years to do it. So Ryan do your stuff, I'm all ears and eyes. Great channel, best in it's genre.

Doing it for the overall balance and core work. Lifting weights left me with some blind spots that has led to a herniated disk and two years of embarrassing debilitation. I’m recovering well but it took a while and I want to be more well rounded than just lifting heavy. Your videos are great btw. Very well explained but concise. Thanks for the effort.

I trained a lot with weights in my youth, I unwittingly as is commonly done under trained my shoulders/scapula & rotator cuff muscles and the result was a stretched out muscle in the rotator cuff and limited mobility and injury. I find the calisthenics really work the areas I foolishly never even knew I could train...You live you learn right. I want to be able to eventually grab a post on the side of the road and completely lift myself horizontally haha that's the mark for me and it's such great fun and the work outs while very challenging I find very fun to do. I guess it's just getting into a different comfort zone I am not familiar with currently I am very much a beginner and I love that this training allows me to strengthen the shoulders and back and core in very practical ways.

I am trying to improve my calisthenics to improve my overall fitness. I spent most of my active life (10 years or so) focusing on one particular form of fitness at a time (i.e. running, competitive canoe paddling, hiking, rock climbing). With that said, regardless of how strong I felt at my particular sport, I never felt an overall sense of strength. Calisthenics I believe with satisfy this need. So far it has changed my body incredibly. Thanks for your video tips!

Great video, I'm new to Calisthenics,I like the way you explain the muscles involved and what the basic move can progress to. I like even the basic broken down as some people can have difficulty even doing them and it helps to understand an approximate time for developing that technique. I'm learning Calisthenics for a number of reason, to get in shape, learn body control, improve my, physique , and it's cool. Great work.

Well, I'm a 26 yr old guy. Lifted weights for 10 years. Have gotten rather large a few times.. but the aches and pain that come with it in the future ain't worth being "swole" so I've been told... anyhow. 26 with 3 kids and wonderful wife, needed a way to get a good workout in at home and I dont have the $$ to buy at home gyms. Totally new to this... did one of the beginner circuit workouts yesterday and was sore when I went to bed.... still cant figure that out... different muscles than what I'm used to using I guess... anyhow... vowed to try this for a 2 month cycle so I will let ya know how it goes! Thanks so much for the great content! I'm wanting to lose weight and strengthen my core the most! Thanks again!

Thanks for making this video. I'm a real beginner at calisthenics and I've enjoyed watching and learning from your videos. I think, it'd be helpful if your videos are numbered, i.e. Beginner #1: whatever skill set here, Beginner #2: progression from video #1, etc. It'll make it easier for a beginner like me to follow you. Even better if you have a website or a link showing where all these videos reside. Again, thanks so much ! You're a very good instructor, to the point without a lot of chitchat BS. You value your viewer's time and I appreciate you a lot for that :-)
