Geoff doing arpeggios while Caesar does air guitar. No one notices the arpeggios, but Geoff nailed them!

J.None with his recent promotion in the Navy has stationed him much closer to VoicePlay. He is in Washington DC so only a 2h30min flight. Much better than flying from the West Coast to the East Coast. This is their Halloween as far as we know because Geoff and his family had COVID-19 for two weeks and he didn't have his voice for most of September. Set their schedule back a bit.

I think this is their Halloween offering this year. They have a live performance coming up with the rock band Chicago, at Ocean Casino Resort, (500 Boardwalk, Atlantic City, NJ 08401 Nov 17), and they have to rehearse for that. Lovely reaction. :) Geoff's new one, Jack'a Lament, is certainly his Halloween offering.

The VoicePlay covers have many, many tracks - sometimes over 100 of them! So that is Geoff providing all the deep bass, and Layne providing all the fantastic vocal percussion sounds. My favorite background vocals are Geoff's arpeggios behind J's verse.

this is so dramatic and it didn’t need a lot of elaborate props or costumes they just focused on the vocals and the lighting ❤🏴

This video is stunning, evil, mesmerizing, and absolutely unforgettable. The guard is Tony Wakim, Cesar had an air guitar and vocal. (Good eye on your part). Geoff has done a fair number of bad guys, but this goes beyond it. A frightening character, Minister Frollo.

Thank you for your reaction. ❤ Layne did just a very little bas, the rest of the basline is Geoff was laired. It was Cesar with the guitar sound. Amazing. And JNone is, even just sat as feature, a part of VP. 😂 They have said them self, they would kidnappe him. 😂😂😂 ❤❤❤❤❤❤

I think the word I would use for this one is engrossing. From the moment it dropped on Patreon, I was binge watching it. I had never heard it before, so it was amazing. Eli has done the bass line for Geoff when he was otherwise occupied, and J just received a promotion and a transfer with the Navy. He is now singing bass with them, so either of them could have done it. Or Geoff could have recorded the lower track as well. I don't think they've said. Cesar was doing that guitar sound, he also did instrumental sounds in their version of In The Air Tonight.

It was Layne doing some bass in the beginning but then it was Geoff double tracked after I believe, and it was Cesar with the electric guitar sounds! And Tony was the guard in the video but Eli was the voice over. They're only doing a mini for Halloween I think because of an upcoming performance but this one was also pretty spooky so I'm content. I can't stop listening to this on repeat lol

I think this is their Halloween offering this year. They don’t always do something specifically Halloween. In the past they’ve done Stevie Wonder’s Superstition, and Ghost Riders in the Sky has ghosts but isn’t really Halloween. So I think this is it for the season. This gives me chills every single time I hear it. They really portrayed the menace that is Frollo. The choral portions, and what reminds me of bells ringing in the background, at the beginning really points out the contrast between his so-called piety and his true self. And when I watch it it’s even more pronounced. I think that’s because of their acting, Geoff’s especially . It isn’t overt, but it is there. At the beginning he looks tormented but not insane. And I just noticed for the first time that when he says “this fire in my soul” he looks at his hands like he is wondering what’s happening to him. Then his whole posture changes into something far more aggressive. That flip from torment to madness is impressive. I detest Frollo . He’s so twisted. But the song is powerful and beautiful in a disturbing way. Somehow they makes him seem almost human, so I find myself not only listening but watching over and over again. (But I’ll never watch the movie again.)

I think Layne might have been singing the bass in a couple of places here, although VP is also known to multi-track Geoff for the official audio in some cases, even if somebody else would be picking up the bass line (during his lead) for live performances.

The guardian is acted by Tony, voiceover Eli. So all baritones of VoicePlay in the same shot: Layne as the original before he took over vocal percussion. Tony Wakim JNone Cesar Cesar has begun to do several electronic sounds in later videos, so probably he was the guitar.

OOOhhh, first comment! Glad you enjoyed this, it's my favorite version of this song now. Gives me goosebumps. It's amazing. Peter Hollens also does a great cover of this.

This goes not only for VP, but for the most acapella groups: For the "perfect production" (and of course any track is prerecorded and lip-synched for the videos) there may be multiple layers of the same singer. In this one, surely is Geoff doing the deep bass line AND singing the lead vocals. Sometimes they use layering for special effects, and also they use filters in the post production to create special sound effects (like the guitar here or sometimes the drum sound of Layne) - but they always "produce" the basic sound with their voice or body (percussion) and never use instruments or synthisized sounds. So it's correctly "acapella", but possibly with post production filters and effects. They can perform the songs live, but you will hear a difference to the produced tracks, of course.
