Just thought of something: The KGB were basically the Soviet Union's secret police and the whole thing about the Cold War was that "not a single shot was fired" (save for the proxy wars like Vietnam,) right? Why are we shooting our way out of the KGB's HQ? Wouldn't that alone had been enough to cause WWIII, especially since Mikael Gorbachev was inside the KGB building at the time? Wouldn't it have been better if the mission went all-in on being undercover and using every covert tactic available to not blow your cover and start a firefight?

I actually thought the campaign was great especially if you were a big fan of the original Black Ops story from 2011. It leads in with a lot despite it being so short and I loved the inclusion of being able to talk to your teammates between missions. It built so much personality for the characters so when it came to some of the more action-heavy missions like Cuba, I was still invested because they properly built up the stakes and you were with a group of characters you cared about. The mission where you go back to the Radar Complex from Black Ops 1, it was a real trip to see it after it was destroyed in the first game, and if you take your time running through it you'll see resonance from when Mason was there last time and the inclusion of the references that he still is dealing with the brainwashing he went through with the Soviets in Black Ops 1. I thought that was really fascinating plus I loved the alternate endings and the whole choice system that they implemented. The more time goes by the more I just think of how much fun I have playing this campaign. Though I do wish it was longer, it being short kinda gives it the advantage of being easily replayable and I think with more playthroughs, things become more "firm" with the narrative and from there you can take things towards a different route. It was short, sweet, entertaining, and most of all fun for me anyway, I personally replay the missions from this way more than I do for MW 2019.
@vlad4o813
@vlad4o813 3 жыл бұрын
Shame you didn't talk about the different endings. They are probably the most interesting part of the campaign. SPOILERS: The fact that you can betray your team and side with the villain in one of them was a really nice twist and I somewhat think it was much better than the "good" ending. Though the good ending is obviously the canon, since it leads to the events of Black Ops 2.

@JustSkram
@JustSkram 3 жыл бұрын
That "twist" was predictable from a mile away, and the reason it's not the "good" ending is beyond me, these characters are beyond unbearable and have been even in their original BO variants. And the """good""" ending is some half cocked way of the devs saying "america sometimes bad too" obviously they know they can't offend their demographic who gets scared at the sound of anything non-english sounding so...

@michaelramon2411 3 жыл бұрын
This was was... interesting. It had some good levels (Berlin, KGB HQ and Mind Screw). While its choice system does not form a brilliant chain of unintended consequences like Black Ops 2 did (the only choice I can think of that comes back in another level is freeing/killing the informant in Berlin, and the game's ending is decided by one single choice at the end, unaffected by your earlier decisions), the short-term choices did feel somewhat meaningful, or at least giving you a little bit of agency. The core twist was a good call-back to Black Ops 1 (though I wish it had been foreshadowed a little bit more). The new characters (or at least Adler) felt like they fit into the existing Black Ops setting well enough. Even the villain cameos in the KGB HQ level felt cool and natural rather than forced. The biggest problem I think, actually, is the old Black Ops characters. Hudson works just fine, but Mason and Woods take up space without really adding anything. It's not their game, it's Adler and Bell's, and it's a little misleading to have them there. As fun as running around with Woods is, I think the game would have benefited from using its new characters more extensively. (Did Sims go on a mission after the first 'Nam flashback?) It's a short game with a lot of characters, and it needed more time with them, especially if it wanted a solid impact from things like the "pick one character to save" choice. The other weak point I feel is the villain. There is kind of a cool set-up of "we know almost nothing about this guy but this old picture", but the fact that Perseus almost never appears eventually makes it harder to hate him in the way that good CoD villains do. Even something like a taunting audio recording before the base you are in explodes because he was a step ahead of you would have been good. And I kept expecting a big twist about Perseus ("he's actually a high-ranking American official!" "he's a Soviet A.I.!" "his goal is actually to end the Cold War to protect both countries!" "Perseus doesn't exist - he's a scapegoat for CIA or KGB screw-ups!"), but there isn't one. He's exactly who Adler thought he was from the start. (They try to do a "Perseus isn't really a person, he's a group of people" thing, but given that there IS a single person who masterminded everything who is a Soviet agent and has no other name given, that twist completely fails to work.) You also don't fight him or even confront him in what was probably the single weakest final level I can think of in a CoD campaign. Given the grand twist with Bell, I also think it would have been nice if they'd played into the "the antagonists think they're defending THEIR way of life!" thing that got mentioned once or twice. Show what successes the Soviets think they are defending, or why they are afraid of capitalism. As it stands, there's no real reason to choose the bad ending other than "You can" or "The CIA were jerks to me." Overall, this one was... decent. It had some good moments, levels and mechanics that elevate it above the bad CoDs and the perfectly average vanilla CoD, but it lacks the extra spark and consistent level of quality to reach the level of the great CoDs.

I gotta say, for all the Call of Duty games I've played, I've never once been interested in any of the zombie aspects. Not that I'm obsessed with "historical accuracy," and even if I was, in most cases, Call of Duty throws that pretty much out the window anyways. I know a lot of people really love the zombies, completely respect that, to each their own...but to Ralph's point here that Call of Duty feels so confused about what it wants to be, like a deep thoughtful campaign or military-shooty-shooty-bang-bang...I do wonder why Call of Duty hasn't just done a full zombie/alien/monster themed game. I know most of the campaigns strive for this human, relatable, real world storytelling feel, but...if so many people just play it for the multiplayer, PvP, or zombies, and so few people play it for the human, relatable, real world storytelling, to the point where Black Ops 4 just straight up didn't have a campaign at all...I'm very curious why they haven't gone in this direction.

@DekkarJr 3 жыл бұрын
@@commentingchannel9776 yeah but as a story and as a campaign IMO it was one of the most boring. Very little stood out in terms of what stands out in the other CoD games, it didn't have the same epic feel as the previous MW games and the other COD games. TBH infinitie warfare is probly my fav in the series, 1 cus im a sucker for sci fi and the space combat was really dope, and it had a lot of weapons and attachments and stuff to find a long the way and side quests and stuff. TBH, for the money that we pay tho, they should make these campaigns a lot longer... most of them come and go so fast... Cold War "attempted" to mold itself into something a bit interesting but tbh, besides the ending, the story was meh. The addition of the side quests was interesting in terms of the intel decrypting process, but the missions themselves were rly rly rly short and the people you were killing were inconsequential to everything in the game. They should have massively expanded that. Im reinstalling MW right now, I feel like I didn't think it was that impressive previously but that could have just been a time I was drinking or something lol cus I rly dont remembner it very well. Anyway my point was - that even if its an older engine, imo it looks pretty good for the most part. Some missions are kind of meh in their presentation but others look incredible (the reflections on the tile in the KGB building for example). I guess when I think of Call of Duty I want to think of a crazy cinematic roller coast ride that starts and doesn't get off for at least 6 hours, but to me MW felt subdued and Cold War felt like it didn't reach it's potential :3
