RetroDre I have to agree with you on that. Some years ago when I tried completing this game on Veteran mode (on the Xbox 360) I came so close to throwing my controller so many damn times. Of course I succeeded eventually but during those times, I came close to giving up all hope. Personally I think Heart of the Reich was the hardest mission of all.

The last tunnel to the mortar attack is impossible. When I was in the trenches of their land their blood I thought that was hard enough, but I have been playing this little part for at least 2 hours and have gotten close, but died every time. Its either the banzai trying to kill you from behind, the kamikazi gunman, or the grenades. I HATE THE GRENADES THE MOST. And when you need help there is none, it's like I spent 5 minutes watching my men jump in the tunnel and its like their trying to commit suicide cause they don't last 5 seconds without being gunned down. Hardest mission I have ever played.

In the last tunnel, there is that room at the end of hall( the room you said those American dudes were basically suiciding for 5 minutes). That is the last area before the mortar pit. What I did was toss some smoke in there, wait for it to get real white, and then, run in blindly with the flamethrower burning everything. After that, I just ran out of there.

I'm Japanese, so I can say that's true. I don't really think about the view of history. Japanese children seem to love watching games like this and having sensitive conversations.(I don't want to have that kind of conversation because it makes me awkward) The only thing I care about is the difficulty of the game. The game that treyarch makes was a "nasty" difficulty. And WaW seems to be a pretty tough game. The maliciousness was also demonstrated in CoD3 and 007 QoS. I want to know how they adjust the game difficulty.

Completely agree. I played this campaign on veteran at least 3 times when I was young. I remember I struggled a lot with "Heart of the Reich" back then. But last week, like 8 years since the last time I played it again. I struggled A LOT more with the asian campaign: this mission, Relentless and Blowtorch & Corkscrew. The soviet campaign was a piece of cake in comparison. Even "Heart Of The Reich" was quite easy for me this time.

I've played a high majority of call Of duties On veteran mode and got through Here's a massive tip On burn em out. Run in front of them and hide in front of the barrel. Hurl a smoke cannister in the corner instead of in front of the gunner in the beginning. This tactical advantage makes it heaps easier and faster to get through especially on veteran mode

The trick is to stick to the walls (throw smoke if you have to move in the open), and burn literally everything in sight. Even if it looks dead, just burn it to be sure. That's how I did it.

Andrew Spud Besides taking out the 88s in Heart of the Reich this is the hardest spot in the entire campaign. A lot of luck is needed but I tried baiting the enemies by advancing and then falling back. This kinda helped make the AI move with you. Of course, be ready for throwing back grenades

Tips on this mission on veteran: Keep the flamethrower. After passing through the machine gun throw another smoke on the first motar you And pull out your flamethrower the smoke will disable the ai autoaim but also be aware that you can use the flamethrower for 7 secs. For the second motar pit throw a grenade where an Mg is. DO NOT throw another smoke grenade you only have 2. be careful of the trees they have snipers. Also throw a smoke before going to the second motar pit By the time you reach the second motar pit you are in a home stretch Just be careful of ambush where an mg is. there are smoke grenades before entering the tunnel where the last motar Is look to your left and you see an mg before the tunnel entrance just use the useless allies as a bait And then burn em. And you get 4 smokes and somewhat 2 or 3 grenades I reccomend going cover to cover don't be afraid of grenades you can throw them back I hope this helps because this mission is a fucking hell on veteran Good luck.

I just beat this mission on veteran. That last tunnel was one of the worst things I have ever experienced in a game. And I'm going to tell you how to beat it. First, melt the guys in the bunker on the left. Grab all the grenades and smoke bombs, then go outside again. Then, kill any Japanese soldiers in the area above you. Then you want to grab a Garand and go behind Roebuck. Now, for the thing that makes this mission hell. After you go behind Roebuck, you need to peek out and throw some grenades towards the enemy's direction. DO NOT PEEK OUT TOO FAR! You will be shot and killed instantly. If there are any enemy soldiers behind the boxes that are close to the area where most of the Infinitely spawning soldiers go, then you need to pick them off. Then you want to slowly pick off the Japanese soldiers with the Garand and only do this when there are TWO friendly soldiers in the tunnels shooting at the enemy. After you kill all of the first wave, then you must move up a bit to trigger the next wave. Now you and the friendly soldiers that run in will fight in Hell. Do the same thing you did before, but be EXTRA CAREFUL! Every single enemy soldier has a Type 99, which will kill you even faster. Then you will repeat the same thing you just did, but even more difficult. There will also be Japanese soldiers running around the hole at the top of the tunnel, so remember to kill them fast. After you clear out the tunnel, you have basically won. Then, you want to slowly take out the rest of the units in the mortar pit. This took me over an hour to do, and this is what I did to complete it.

Your way sounds pretty iffy, I just did the mission and what I did after trial and error was realize that I needed to smoke out the entire room, run in with flamethrower going full blast and that takes care of almost everyone in the big room. If anyone is out of smoke grenades at that point, there some in the room on the left with the 3 guys just before entering the main tunnel to go to the HELL ROOM

I just beat this on HARDENED and had a really hard time. I'm scared of Veteran. For the infamous final tunnel with the open roof, I found that slowly peeking around cover and sniping the Type 99 guys with my M1 Garand was the safest option (after using the flamethrower and even grenades more often than not got me shot to shit - one time I tried a smoke grenade and the fucker saw me THROUGH THE SMOKE!). Then I advanced to the next part of the room (shooting the one guy who hangs around outside the hole up top), triggered the next attack and ran back. Had a VERY close call when a Banzai dude got me into a QTE but thankfully I got him, sniped the Type 99 guys with the M1 and then mopped up the rest with the flamethrower and grenades. This is one of my very favorite CoD games but my first time playing it on Hardened. "Blowtorch and Corkscrew" and "Heart of the Reich" are waiting for me. I'm excited :'D UPDATE FROM THE FUTURE - So I beat the game on Hardened a while back but remembered I made this comment. I actually had a slightly EASIER time with those two levels than "Burn 'Em Out". They weren't cakewalks by any means, but I still got through them more smoothly than that final "Burn 'Em Out" tunnel.

The secret to that last trench is throwing a couple of smoke grenades and right after throw a grenade, once the grenade blows you'll have to run in with the flamethrower and "burn em out" is the easiest way. Also did it in veteran mode ;)

I reached the last tunnel while listening to Pink Floyd. Echos started playing. It, and many other songs, finished before i passed that part.

It's kinda funny how every FPS game portrays a flamethrower as a weapon used to spray fire directly at an enemy. That is not the case. Flamethrowers, in real life, were meant to spray burning gasoline into pillboxes in order to smother the troops inside, suffocating them by burning up all the oxygen. You could argue that's a worse way to die than being burned to death. Other than that, this mission pretty accurately depicts how quickly a flamethrower-user would die on the front lines. The average lifespan of a flamethrower operator in WW2 was 5 minutes.

In the Pacific theater, flamethrowers weren't used as much on pillboxes as they were on honeycomb trenches and caves. They would just fire into the small opening and like you said, smother everyone in flames and or restrict the oxygen flow.

@@chadkingoffuckmountain970 There is literally no use in doing that. A flamethrower has at least 7-10 seconds of burn before it runs dry. Why waste 1-2 seconds of fuel on infantry when 1-2 bullets can have a greater, more controlled and less wasteful effect?

Cod on Veteran is stupid hard, why even name veteran?? when every enemy is like shooting a Terminator with half a second reflex to kill you, that's when they should have think that's little too much, but no.

the smoke grenades are your best friends. the last mortar crew felt impossible until i grabbed some smoke grenades and i finally got to the last mortar crew.

Just did this part with ONLY the flamethrower on Veteran. It's actually not that hard. Come back before the tunnel, turn around. When walking back, you'll find a hideout with 4 SMOKE grenade. Don't waste your time. Come in the tunnel with 1 smoke, 1 grenade behind the box, second smoke. Flamethrow the banzai grenade everyone. After a few try you ll get it right. WHen you have to kill the last one up there, come back to the hideout, there are 3 last smoke + 4 grenades. Use them all up there. The smoke will prevent the insta kill. Good luck, you should get this in 10 tries max.

I like how Treyarch portrayed the cultures of each forces. The Marines: It shows the adaptability of the Marines as that is what they are known for. Using rifle grenades by hand, using an unmanned truck with exposed fuel on "Semper Fi" to create an entrance with the element of surprise. The bond amd compassion between Marines: The Marines going to save their men undercover. Charging towards a Japanese fighter despite being disemboweled by a katana. Close quarter fighting and hand to hand combat. Then you got the Soviets who are portrayed as patiently relentless and unforgiving. They seem to care less about each other at the moment on a personal level like Reznov bullying Chernov or Reznov not "really" trying to find Dimitri but kind of just stumbling uppon him and reuniting unlike the Marines who make it a priority to not leave anyone behind. On a large scale and long term goal the Soviets are one force with a goal to annex the Nazis and destroy them no matter how long or how burtal it gets. The Marines win the battles. The Soviets win the war. 2 different warriors with 2 completely different enemies. The Nazi's have crazy technology and mass production of weapons and superior tactics..The Japanese use modern weaponry but harness the mentality of the Samurai Warrior and use their environmentas a weapon.. Both would be shitty forces to fight. Great game and attention to detail.
