Not to say that WaW didn't but there were moments in WWII (game) where it was pretty chilling just listening to the battlefield. The fact no music played until you got past the beach just made it that much more chilling. You have to remember, a lot of the people who fought were just kids. Treyarch, despite making a fun and somewhat serious campaign, it was back when CoD really started becoming an action movie equse game series.

One of the things about WAW I loved was how unflinching the violence was. Up to that point most WW2 games were t-rated so when I saw that I could blow limbs and heads off in detail I was like “holy shit.” Just added a whole new level of grittiness to WW2 I’d not seen in video games yet
