There is a little cheesy trick to get extra coins at start, you can drop one coin for the vagrants to move left then emtpy you pocket at the slings/bows , the slinger/bowman will pick up those coins, dont move slow or stop near him or he drop them again and ruins this trick, with empty pocket you get the coins you need for the next steps, also with this tutorial still running time wont run and you can explore the map wthout timeloss, you can get chests and then get a really nice start with alot of coins for tools and the instant camp upgrade.

Not sure, they've rebalanced it with the latest update so it's supposedly harder than before. But it was previously still very manageable.
