This exactly what I would expect out of the final part of the Mother Brain fight and I've even come up with a small story with how this fight can work After the sacrifice of the baby Metroid, Mother Brain walks over to Samus and raises her foot in an attempt to squish her. However Samus gets up and dodges and shoots Mother Brain in the chest Mother Brain ( in her mind): how can she be hurting me, her attacks did nothing to me before, that little Metroid, no matter, I shall destroy her here and now, nobody can save her this time. The fight continues and Samus dodges Mother Brain's attacks and eventually a beam clash ensues with Samus eventually succeeding, blinding Mother Brain in the process Samus then takes advantage of this. Due to her loss of sight, Mother Brain is attacking like a wild animal and Samus shoots off her arm, then cripples her legs causing Mother Brain to start limping and she's at the edge of the arena, Samus shoots blast after blast and as Samus prepares the final shot, Mother Brain attempts to make 1 last punch but just before that can happen, Samus fires the blast and Mother Brain's body explodes with only her brain intact which Samus destroys with her last missile.

The Surface theme (after initial atmospheric theme) is referred as the theme of Samus in Super Metroid. But "the theme of Super Metroid" later became the theme of Samus Aran because it was more iconic (and the one you were expecting here).
