Callas as Lucia - Act 1 aria + duet (LIVE ‘STEREO’ Sound) [1956]

The title role in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor was one of Callas's great triumphs. This broadcast recording from December 1956 beautifully captures the Greek soprano's mid-career voice and interpretation of the Fountain Scene, beginning with Lucia's aria and ending with the Act 1 love duet. Suffering from a cold, she sings cautiously but expressively. She is joined first by Thelma Votipka as Alisa and then Giuseppe Campora as Sir Edgardo di Ravenswood.

I have re-equalized and stereoized their transfer to bring the most life and dimension out of the record, and I am personally very pleased with the results. Please enjoy!

Always outstanding performance by Callas..she made opera great...not just swinging her arms around like most singers...her voice is one in a million..will forever be my no 1❤ greatest diva ever to grace the world stages with her voice and soul..

Malgré une interprétation toujours artistiquement splendide..c'est une petite soirée qui voit Callas en mauvaise forme vocale ,les notes suraiguës essentielles dans Lucia sont très précaires et mal assurées. J'ai su qu'elle avait chanté ce soir là , malgré un rhume très handicapant.
