No one EVER has had a voice like her. My parents listened to her when I was young. I thought it truly was an angel singing, like a prayer. So Blessed to have the technology to listen to this ✨

One year, she sang 'in voce Virginis' several stanzas of the "Lamentations at the Burial of Christ" -- at Ascension Greek Orthodox Church, Oakland, CA. -- There wasn't a dry eye in the place -- about 1,000 attending, I'd guess. I doubt any recording was made! How do you record Perfection?

Maria Callas, the greatest opera singer of all times. Her singing moves me to tears. Easy. I spent an hour looking for her grave at Per Lachaise Cemetery in Paris and finally I found in the catacombs a small plate with her name and dates (birth/death). Amazing. Love you Maria.

Callas forever! Her voice had a supporting bottom to it that made every note she sang sound like a full orchestra in if itself. I wish more live footage of her existed. I’d love to see her.

There is no one who poured such emotion into the aria repertoire touching the listener as she did. To me she defines the standard of each one she sang. She gave her all to her audience at a great cost. Who else can so often move the listener to tears putting us in touch with the depth of our emotions? Maria Callas was my introduction into what opera meant. Through her singing I found a new world. Listen to La traviata, “Libiam ne’ lieti calici,” even in this you can here pathos in her voice. Maria Callas, J'ai une grande admiration pour cette grande diva à la voix puissante, unique, bouleversante. C'est la plus célèbre cantatrice du vingtième siècle qui n'a jamais cessé de nous fasciner, c'est bien sûr pour l'incroyable rareté de sa tessiture vocale et son expressivité digne d'une grande tragédienne, mais aussi pour sa forte personnalité. Mais hélas, s'en est allée tragiquement en 1977 à l'âge de 53ans ! Une grande pensée pour cette artiste d'exception partie trop tôt ! ,🙏👋,,♥️.

The greatest of all sopranos. What makes her (for me) different is not the beauty of the voice itself (Tebaldi might have more beautiful voice) but, I would say, the feeling for drama combined with phantastic feminine sensuality she expresses in her singing. That makes her a part of the great unsurpasible trio Caruso, Shaliapin, Calas.

I've thought nothing of opera. I am a choir student, i'm an alto... and good grief, Maria's tone and how she hold and belts practically every note, and is spontaneously successful despite her passing is incredible.. is unreal. I love opera, she's also so interesting to learn about. On my own time I listen to her music. I adore her, she is an angle

Got her name from a book “London Calling” and searched on the internet. Now, I am here listening to her the entire day while I am working. So beautiful and so peaceful even I have no idea what she is singing. I don’t think I need to know really. Her voice is the heaven.

Her life was a true opera. She came out as a chubby little girl, and turned into one of the most beautiful things in the history of humanity. In the height of her career, she fell in love, and had her beautiful heart broken. She died alone and lonely. I am alone; I am lonely; but I have her magnificent voice to give me a reason to explain my tears to others.

The most beautiful voice I've ever heard. I discovered her from movies that featured her lovely voice, then did an internet search. Maria is my favorite. I play her CD's all the time.

my introduction to Maria Callas was Vissi d'arte. it was absolutely the most moving version I've heard. it was so powerful and moving in every way. I simply couldn't stop searching for and listening to all her other works after that. she wasn't just singing, she was delivering everything, the emotions, the characters, the story, etc. it was indescribable! she might not have the most lovely voice, but her artistry is unmatched. her dedication to her roles are so complete. she can take you right into the story with her singing. you feel like you are experiencing what the character is experiencing through her incredible performance. her singing doesn't dissipate after I finished listening. it follows me for days. but it's not an addiction, it's simply something so beautiful that our minds won't let go.

For thousands of years the Greek Ideal was held as an example in art as sculpture, government, poetry, bravery in warfare, architecture. the golden mean, and in every other way the Greek Ideal was taught in the best universities, along with Latin . actually, Madame Butterfly is one of the many stories in operas that are so much against women ... I actually really hate the story. In operas it is always the women who suffer from selfish men behaviour and societies supporting this. Last summer I saw Madame Butterfly and my friend and I we were both so angry with this story - I guess the interpretation must have been excellent because we were so upset with this horrible story... 😆

Was moved once again today not only by Callas' magnificent voice and its incredible emotion, but also your collection and the comments posted over the years. Finally had to stop. There were simply too many. Thank you. One of the commentators told of listening to the Texaco weekend Met broadcasts live "from the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City" on clear channel 50,000 watts AM with their grandfather over 70 years ago. I, too, discovered classical opera the same way, also about 70 years ago, around age six or seven years. Alone in my bedroom on Saturday afternoon listening to a small, plastic, inexpensive Crosley table model radio with a tiny paper-coned speaker. Enraptured by the voices and music but not understanding a single word for sometimes over three hours except Milton Cross' wonderful radio voice giving synopses act-by-act. Still have a first edition copy of his "Milton Cross' Complete Stories of the Great Operas" which was discovered in a dusty used book store. Plan to send it to my son who will soon be stationed accompanied in Italy for two years. His wife has expressed an interest in attending as many performances as possible while they are there. Unfortunately they will never hear Callas live but only on vinyl, tape and CD. The good news is KZbin is filled an archive of remarkable kinescope performances from the 50's, taped analog performances from the 60's, and now a few digitally remastered DVDs. There's also an incredible documentary bio entitled "Maria Callas: Biography of the Legendary Opera Singer". And of course we'll always have Wikipedia. d

I have been listening to these recordings for almost two months now, and even though unfortunately I don't understand the lyrics, these are arguably the most overwhelming songs I have heard, and I listen to a lot of Indian classical music. Maria Callas had a divine gift, no one can match her, in my humble opinion. Also, been trying g to Google and understand the lyrics as well.
