I hit them, they are nice but way too expensive. I liked the high launch which I got from the Apex irons also. Spin on the Apex was higher for me than most the KZbin reviews I've seen. The lie on my Apex are Up2, not sure if that would cause more spin or not but they worked really well for me during the fitting. I personally don't need $2,000 irons but that's strictly a personal choice. Great review as usual

I hit these today and absolutely loved them over my TM RSI1’s. Although I didn’t care for the look and thicker top line at first, I hit them so much better than my normal TM’s. 20 yards plus on average with a tighter shot dispersion. Cant argue with success.I have a 10 hcp and take lessons a few times a month and play and practice regularly. I went to demo Mizuno MP18 SC’s and wound up ordering these on the spot. I tried several other brands and types of Callaway’s with different shafts and these always came out on top. They are pricey but they worked for me and felt better than anything I have ever hit. If they work for you and you can afford them, buy em!

Great video Mark...your comment about practicing more reminds of something Lee Trevino talked about on a best tip video segment I saw years ago...he gave the tip and then said, that and hitting 300 to 400 balls a day at the range will get you playing much better. I'm a just retired Engineer who hasn't played in about 5 or 6 years (the last round I played I holed out from 130 with my pitching wedge for an eagle) and want to start again...back when I was tuned up and practicing I was a solid 4 handicap (btw, my clubs are the old Cleveland vas 792 irons with med-stiff graphite shafts) who had just started shooting my first couple under par rounds and in very good physical shape...I'm not sure my body can get back to that so I'm considering these to help me "cheat" the process a little bit...the price isn't an issue with me. I'm also considering the Titleist AP3/AP1 "hybrid" set. I would ask for your input but I know from experience the only way I'll know is to take them to the range and see what I think....again, great video...and YES you did absolutely flush that last 4 iron...a truly EPIC shot.

So, you said to try these irons and THEN give your opinion. Well, I finally had the opportunity to try the Epic irons in PW, 7i and 5i on the range and the course. The PW felt and performed great, and was also going the distance my 9 iron normally goes (yikes). The 7 iron really surprised me because I've never hit a 7 iron that had such a strong and low trajectory as the Epic. Both the height and spin were more like my 5 iron and the distance also closer to my 5 iron. So, I wasn't too surprised when I moved to the 5 iron and found it didn't perform well for me and was more like the results I would expect with a "normal" 3 iron. The longer than normal shaft in the 5 iron probably didn't help either. I'm normally high spin, high launch with my irons, but I struggled to get either with the Epic irons. That was surprising since I get quite different results from the Apex irons and still obtain quite reasonable spin and height from them. Just really surprised with the results I got with the Epic irons. I didn't like the feel of the 7 or 5 irons, which was strangely quite different from the PW. Needless to say these aren't for me. The fit and finish on them is immaculate though, really premium quality.

I have tried both epic and epic pro. I did like the pro version the best. Thinking about adding a 4 iron to my set and replacing a hybrid I use at the moment. The spin numbers were working just fine for me and they did feel soft, not Z965 soft but soft when hit in the middle. The forgiveness was there across the face. I toed a 7 iron and still got it out there 169 up in the air not rolling. I must mention, the only reason I would entertain spending the money is because me and some buddies won a scramble over the weekend were given Callaway gift cards. I have way to much equipment already, my wife hates it other that the fact that she gets a new bag or purse every time I get a new club or clubs. So I will probably get a epic iron or two or a set, not sure but it will be with Callaway money not mine.

I bought a full set of the Sterling Single Length irons this season played 10 rounds and they are nice and all . but they ball doesn't STOP on the greens , I went back to my old 25 yo V groove irons an my scoring has come down , by 7 -10 shots , I have played my blades 3 times in the last week and my scores are 74 , 77 , 79 , never even came close to breaking 80 with the new Sterlings or All my other Ping or Adams sticks I have in the closet !! True I may be a half a club shorter with the 25 yo blades but they spin and the ball sticks , plus the feel with actually trying shots I quit doing because the CB improvement clubs didn't allow me any to make those shots . So I now have a set of Mizuno MP-64 blades on the way selling everything else !

Surely if you want to pay high value for irons you won't buy these as Callaway is not an exclusive brand. PXG is catering to high end customers only, Callaway is just trying to get involved in the market. Muira is expensive cause they do not produce in bulk but the product is of very high quality and have a faithful following. Buying these is like buying a Casio watch with a £1800 price tag but is it really any better than a Casio G Shock at £85. I doubt it!!!!!!

I am in need of an irons upgrade, still using clubs I purchased new in 1993. I am leaning towards the Ping G's, not because I particularly care for their looks but I like how they sit behind the ball and I hit well with them. I dont expect them to lower my handicap directly but do think the added forgiveness will give me better iron play which if I handle the rest of the game could shave a stroke or two from what would have been a miss hit.

Why is no one reviewing the Epic Star version of this iron? I know its supposedly more fitted to the Japanese marketplace and slower swings, but just for shits and giggles, decided to hit a 7 iron Epic star yesterday with a 50g shaft (yes, 50g’s!!!). I was astounded, gobsmacked, shocked and in awe as to how good they felt and my overall numbers. I know the lofts are a bit jacked, but still a good 10-15 yards longer than anything I’ve ever hit, super soft and almost effortless to hit and deadly accurate.

I had a Callaway rep fit me for CF16 and I loved the forged feel and the 175 yard carry with 7 iron, but didn't like the 5000 rpm spin numbers and 9 yards of roll and so what if I have to hit 6 iron 170 carry, because I know my MP5 spin will keep the ball from going off the green. It's all in the number on the iron when it comes down to it. I'm playing a 147 yard par 3 yesterday. wind behind, hitting off an elevated tee box, I hit 9 iron. made me feel good hitting 9 iron , But I knew it was because of the condition, wind behind and elevated tee box. you get a guy in a simulator, he hits a epic 7 iron 160 when it's 135 yds with his old clubs, you got a sale. knowledge is what is needed for these people

what a "measley" review... no but really that was a great video. Beside the watch thingy, i dont think the hate from the clubs comes from the price point, but the fact they are brought out under the callaway brand. If Callaway had gone by the option most big company use, by creating a sister brand for the upscale market (toyota->lexus, skoda->vw->audi->lambo), i dont think we would have such a big fuss about them.

Hey Crossfield! you've got videos about the golf clubs that most can't afford.. We've seen the budget-minded big brand"box set" with bottom-shelf finish.. mainly targeting the beginner. What are your thoughts on "component" boutique companies? Speaking from experience, I've played all of the big brands and my last couple of sets have been a "component build" and they're excellent. I currently play a single length set made by gigagolf. 5-SW + standard 56° and 60°. made with True Temper premiums, winn dri tac mid wraps, and +.5" length/+2° lie adjustment. all for less than $250. I would like to maybe see you showcase a few of these types of sets and really offer some honest feedback. a few companies to check out are Gigagolf (my set), pinemeadow, hireko, and diamond. I think some enlightenment in this area would be helpful to many viewers and the experienced player on a budget who isn't isn't so concerned bout what they're playing so much as how they're playing. tanks bruh! stu

For those hating on the Rolex/watch analogy then just change it to two nice cars... the purpose is to get me from A to B - our Seat does this so does our Mercedes; both depreciate in value albeit at slightly different rates... like the golf clubs don't make you a better golfer neither car makes me a better car driver; one is just a status symbol, a bit of extra luxury and like the golf clubs - I 'feel' more comfortable in one over the other... some people wouldn't spend/waste their money on a nice car like I did but others do; just like I wouldn't spend/waste mine on a Rolex but each to their own...

Why would I want to try these clubs, I have never tried a game improvement club in my life? I like elegant chrome tour clubs like my VR Forged ProCombos, VR Pro forged wedges or my MP-H5 driving irons. If i wanted fun and something luxurious to try I would choose Mizuno or Titelist blades; something challenging and beautiful; something I would never dream of buying to game. Price is irrelevant, what inspires me is elegant craftmanship with quality materials. Mizuno MP-5 blades £712, Titelist 716MB blades £750 seem reasonably priced to me for high quality precision luxury irons; Epic game improvement Irons £1500, Callaway are taking the piss ;-)

Hi Mark, great videos. I just wanted to weigh in here on the whole club vs lessons. I actually wrote a dissertation on the subject. I found through research that high handicappers and those playing for a short amount of time believed clubs would have a greater effect on lowering scores. And that as handicap lowered and how long people had played for increased, opinions that lessons improved their game increased. FYI the real turning point was around 12 handicap or 4 years playing. Marketing is a great tool for businesses. Technical terminology = they must be good Astetics and emotive language allows consumers to identify with brands and create loyal customer base by creating a tribal sense of togetherness. E.g. "I'm a Callaway man" or "I only ever use Taylormade balls" And don't get me started on the names?! Callaway Epic?! Well if my club is, I will be. Sorry to bore just wanted to comment for once. I just really don't think the Rolex analogy works. Like you said, in a few years these clubs will have no resale value, or will be on clearance for half price or more. Rolex hold their value. I also don't think a set of Callaway game improvement irons is going hold even close the same level of prestige a rolex would. I think for the guy looking for prestige, a set of Mizuno blades or Miura blades will bring a lot more prestige and class then a set of game improvement Callaway irons. The other problem is that while a rolex might not tell the time better for anyone, it also won't tell the time worst for anyone either. These clubs might very well be bad picks for especially low handicappers, and possibly even high handicappers, with the low spin. A Rolex will fit everyone, so it carries with it that prestige of a widely desired item by everyone. These irons on the other hand, are not going to have that wide appeal since they are not going to be desired by everyone. Things aren't only desirable because they expensive, and thats really the only reason I see these irons being desirable.

Not sure that I have ever considered what's in the bag as a status symbol for your level of play. Only way I'd pay that for clubs was for guaranteed strokes of handicap. Doubt that's the case here. Have watched the PXG reviews and as much as people say they feel nice not sure they are any different than these. If I was shooting for a status symbol I'd be getting a custom set of Miuras. Not that that will ever happen. I guess I don't understand the "status" symbol regarding clubs. Rolex sure but that's something that becomes an heirloom. Those ugly irons will be out done in 9 months and on a clearance rack. Also not sure what it is that Callaway is selling other than an expensive club, what tech goes into the club for them to justify the price??
